🌱 Our enrichment Eco club gets ready to plant trees this March!

Exciting things are happening in Eco Club! As we prepare for our upcoming tree delivery in March, our members have been hard at work learning how to properly plant and care for trees. This hands-on learning experience is helping us get ready to make a real difference in our community.

Learning the Science Behind Tree Planting

Before we dig into the soil, we made sure to understand why and how we plant trees correctly. During our recent meetings, we explored:

  • The benefits of trees for our environment, including cleaner air and improved wildlife habitats

  • How tree roots grow and what they need to thrive

  • The importance of choosing the right planting location

  • How proper watering and mulching help young trees survive

We practiced identifying the parts of a tree and discussed common mistakes people make when planting, such as digging holes that are too shallow or planting trees too deep.

Step-by-Step Planting Practice

To prepare for the real thing, club members worked together to write clear, easy-to-follow planting instructions. These instructions will guide our volunteers when the trees arrive in March. Here’s a preview of what we’ve learned:

  1. Choose the right spot – Make sure the tree has enough room to grow away from buildings and power lines.

  2. Dig the hole – The hole should be twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root ball itself.

  3. Place the tree carefully – Gently loosen the roots if needed and position the tree straight in the hole.

  4. Backfill with soil – Fill the hole with the original soil and press it down lightly to remove air pockets.

  5. Water thoroughly – Give the tree plenty of water right after planting.

Writing these instructions helped us think carefully about each step and why it matters.

Building Teamwork and Responsibility

Beyond learning planting techniques, Eco Club members practiced teamwork, leadership, and environmental responsibility. Everyone contributed ideas, asked thoughtful questions, and worked together to create a clear guide we can share with others.

Looking Ahead to March 🌳

We can’t wait for our tree delivery in March! Thanks to our preparation, we’ll be ready to plant confidently and help our new trees grow strong and healthy. Stay tuned for photos and updates from planting day!

Together, we’re making our school and community greener—one tree at a time.
