Today Year 5 took part in appointing the next Archbishop of Canterbury. With resources from the National Society for Education, they were explored the role of the Archbishop. They learnt that they are one of the most important leaders in the Church of England and the wider Anglican Communion of churches around the world. After hearing this, they brainstormed what the next Archbishop needs to value, skills they need to have and world issues they should focus on. Some of their ideas are below.
Before the vote, Year 5 learnt more about the role and duties of the Archbishop. Their role means they must lead the vision and direction of the Church of England, together with the Archbishop of York. They need to be a prominent spiritual leader, who lives a life of faith and teaches about God. They need to take care of the Church and help those in need. Finally, they will need to speak up about important issues, lead special events and make big decisions that have a worldwide impact.
Year 5 made their final decisions by completing the online survey. They are looking forward to hearing the results!
