Enrichment – Finance

Today, children have been learning about the key differences between mortgages and renting. We looked at key financial words that relate to mortgages and renting and the definitions of these words.  The children explored the pros and cons of each option and participated in a lively class debate, where they practised expressing their ideas and listening respectfully to others’ viewpoints.

Enrichment Friday: Art

Today, we officially launched our new Art enrichment group focused on sketching, and it was a fantastic start!
Students explored the basics of sketching, experimented with pencil techniques, and began developing their observation and creativity skills. The atmosphere was relaxed and encouraging, allowing everyone—regardless of experience—to have a go and enjoy the process.
This new group is all about building confidence, expressing ideas, and discovering the joy of drawing in a supportive space. We’re really looking forward to seeing how their sketchbooks (and creativity) grow over the coming weeks.
A brilliant first session for our newest Enrichment Friday group

Enrichment Friday: Finance

Today, the children recently took part in a fun, practical activity to help them learn about budgeting. They were given £50 to plan a birthday party, encouraging them to think carefully about how to spend money and make choices.

During the activity, children practised adding and comparing amounts, deciding between needs and wants, and solving problems when their plans needed changing. They showed creativity and teamwork, coming up with thoughtful ideas to stay within budget.

This real‑life learning experience helped build confidence, independence, and valuable money skills that will support them both in school and beyond.

UKS2 – careers afternoon

On Friday, Upper Key Stage 2 had two exciting visitors come in to speak with the children about their jobs. One visitor works in Air Traffic Control,  and the other works with overhead lines for the National Grid. They shared lots of interesting information about what they do, including the equipment and clothing they use at work. The children were very engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and showed great curiosity throughout the sessions. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about different careers and real-world roles.

Year 5 and 6 Careers Afternoon

This week, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils had an exciting opportunity to learn about future careers through visits from two special guests. We were delighted to welcome a children’s nurse, who spoke to the children about her important role in caring for young patients. She shared how she became a nurse, the skills needed and how rewarding it is to help others. The children asked thoughtful questions about working in a hospital.

We were also joined by a Dealer Principal from Greenhous, who works with DAF lorries. He gave the pupils an insight into the world of transport and logistics, explaining how his role helps keep businesses moving. To make the visit even more memorable, he brought a real lorry with him! The children were thrilled to see it up close and had the chance to explore the vehicle and learn how it operates.

Welcoming guests to our school to talk to the children about their careers broadens their understanding of the wide range of careers available to them in the future.

Year 5/6 carers afternoon

Year 5 and Year 6 had special visitors come in to talk about their careers. One visitor was a social worker who explained how she supports young people and families. The children even tried an activity that she might use with the young children she works with, which helped them understand her job better. Another visitor worked in IT and spoke about how technology is used in different workplaces. The pupils enjoyed learning about these careers and asking questions about the visitors’ jobs.

Careers event – Year 5 and 6

Today we were lucky to have two visitors come in to talk to the children about their jobs. One visitor was a student teacher who shared her journey so far to becoming a teacher. She explained her first career and what she studied and then went on to explain to children how she is now training to become a teacher. Our second visitor was a paramedic who talked about the important work they do helping people in emergencies and keeping the community safe. The children really enjoyed hearing about both careers and asking lots of thoughtful questions.

Enrichment – Finance

This week, pupils took part in a lesson exploring the role of tax and why it is important in everyday life. Through discussions, children learned how taxes help fund essential services such as schools, hospitals, and roads. Pupils shared their ideas, asked thoughtful questions, and worked together to develop their understanding of how everyone contributes to society. We worked with our partners to create a simple, child-friendly flowchart showing how taxes work.

Enrichment – Finance

Today, the children learned about budgeting and the importance of managing money wisely during Christmas time. They explored how people could overspend during Christmas and discussed ways to avoid this, such as planning ahead, comparing prices, and distinguishing between wants and needs. The children looked at making responsible financial choices and staying within a set budget, even during the festive season.

Enrichment – Finance

Today, we learnt what profit and loss is. We compared supermarket prices for our refreshments that the finance group are going to see at the EYFS and KS1 Nativity Performances.  We found a total cost and agreed as a group how much we will sell the refreshments for. After this, we then calculated  how much profit we would make.
