Year 5&6 Art

This week in Art, Year 5 and 6 students explored common mistakes artists often make when drawing eyes, such as incorrect proportions or lack of detail. They then practised drawing a realistic eye, focusing on shape, detail, and shading. Students also learned how to use different pencil grades to create depth, making areas lighter or darker to give their drawings a more lifelike appearance.

Enrichment – Finance

In today’s lesson, the children learned about profit and loss. They explored how buying and selling items at different prices can lead to either making money (profit) or losing money (loss), helping them understand basic financial concepts in a practical way.

We then decided, as a group, how we can make a profit from what we decide to sell 🙂

Enrichment – Finance

This week in finance, the children explored the concept of mortgages and home ownership. As part of this lesson we looked at how mortgages work and what they are. The children then designed their dream homes by including different features and budgets. It was great to see how engaged and imaginative they were—asking great questions and thinking critically about what it takes to buy and maintain a home.

Enrichment – Finance

This week in finance, the children learnt valuable budgeting skills by comparing prices at different supermarkets. They had to find items from the shopping list and purchase the items within a set budget. This enabled them to make smart choices and understand the value of money. The children had lots of fun 🙂

A Day of Welcome

Today, KS1 took part in a webinar to celebrate ‘A Day of Welcome’. It is an annual day to help children understand the importance of a welcoming culture. We listened to an online story about Bobble who had to move to a new place because his home was no longer safe. We had class discussions about how we can create a kind culture and welcome new people.

Enrichment – Finance

This week the finance group had a visit from Skills 4 Bills. They had a fun afternoon learning about saving money, spending money and preventing debt. We worked in pairs and were given a job with different salaries. We had to use this money to pay tax, buy a house, a car, holidays and any entertainment that they would like. While completing all of these task we they had to prevent themselves from getting into debt. They all ended the session with a certificate and a piggy bank to help save money in.

Enrichment – Finance and Safety

This week finance group walked to the local Co-op with the safety team who helped us walk there and back safely and ensuring we were looking out for road hazards. The finance team spent their profits on a treat from selling ice pops earlier this term.
