Stone Age Experience Day

Today we had an absolutely fantastic experience learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. During our sessions Sue taught us: how to use saddle and rotary querns to make flour and butter, use bow and pump drills, make shelters, and wattle a miniature wall.

Kat then showed us the timeline of prehistory, using stratigraphy and artefacts. We handled raw materials and authentic and replica artefacts. Then explored prehistoric sites and features, such as Stone Henge and Woolly Mammoths
using the VR headsets.

We then tried carding, spinning and weaving. We also handled a variety of raw materials for making clothes.

What a busy day!

National Coding Week – Year 3/4

This week is Coding Week, and in Year 3 and 4, we have been exploring what coding is all about! We started by learning the basics of coding, understanding that it’s all about giving a set of clear instructions to achieve a specific outcome. To bring this concept to life, we engaged in some physical coding activities where we followed a series of commands to create different shapes with our bodies. By acting out these instructions, we experienced first-hand how coding works, making the learning fun and interactive while helping us grasp the importance of precise and accurate coding.

Maths- Place Value

This week in Year 3 and 4 we have been looking at how to partition and represent numbers up to 100 (Year 3) and 1,000 (Year 4). We used Base 10 and Place Value counters to help us show the numbers, as well as thinking about how we could create a range of calculations and write the number in words.

Exploring seasonal vegetables in the UK

This week in DT we have been finding out about seasonal vegetables in the UK. We have tasted a range of vegetables, thinking about what flavours there are. This is so that we can then decide what flavours we want to add in our seasonal tart.

Locating North America

Today we spent time locating North America in our atlas. When we reviewed our prior learning, we already knew from KS1 the continents song and could locate where each continent was on the map. When we located North America, we discovered that there was 23 individual countries. We couldn’t believe that the country with the largest area is Canada and went on google maps to compare it against the size of the UK. We found out that the country with the largest population is the USA.

RE

This week we did our end of unit double page spread for our unit on The Gospel. We reflected on what Christians would say and then answered our enquiry question, ‘What is the good news Jesus brings’ and ‘why is it good?’ Here are two examples of our work.

History in STARS

Well done to some Year 3 children who have begun construction on a Lego pyramid in STARS. They are currently creating the burial chamber section, which includes: a sarcophagus, canopic jars, death mask, entrance and Anubis statues to guard the body. Can’t wait to see your finished piece!
