Class 3 Weekly Update

Dear parents/carers,

What a brilliant week in Class 3!

In English, we looked at poetry. First, we looked at rhyming words and found out that poems often have rhyming words. Then, we counted the syllables in each verse of a poem about the seasons. Finally, we showed off our new knowledge by creating our own poem all about autumn.

In Maths, Year 1 learnt to count forwards and backwards within 10, and also looked at what is one more and one less of different numbers. Year 2, learnt about part-part whole models and learnt how to partition two digit numbers in different ways. Year 2 also wrote the words for different two digit numbers.

In Geography, we have been using maps of the UK and weather symbols to create a weather forecast for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In Science, we were investigators and used weather symbols to plot what the weather was like each day. It was lots of fun! We also found out that there is more daylight in summer and spring and less in autumn and winter.

 P.E

  • Class 3 will have their P.E lessons on Monday and Thursday and will need to wear P.E. kits on those days.

Reading

  • The children will bring their new reading book and book bag home on Monday.
  • Bookbags need to be handed in every Friday. The children will come home on a Friday with a photocopied Guided Reading book they have been working on in Phonics as well as a Reading for Pleasure book from our book corner, to read over the weekend.

Weekly Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

What a wonderful first week back that we have had in Class 3! The children have settled back into school beautifully, and I have been impressed by their attitude towards school rules and routines.

In English, we looked at capital letters and full stops and where we would expect to see them in a sentence.

In Geography, we started our new topic, all about seasons and weather. The children were able to name the four seasons and discuss the different weather that each season brings.

In Science, our focus is also weather this half-term. The children learnt that weather can be recorded using wind socks, and we even had a go at making our own wind socks that showed the speed and direction of the wind.

 P.E/.

  • Class 3 will have their P.E lesson on Monday and will need to wear P.E kits on that day.

READING BOOKS

  • The children will bring their reading band book and record home on Monday evening. Please don’t worry if your child has been on the same colour band before, as most children will need to re-cap some phonetic knowledge after the summer holidays.

Have a great weekend.

Miss Styles 🙂
