School Closure- Home Learning

Good morning parents/carers

Due to the school being closed I have set home learning tasks on seesaw.

Maths: Year 1: To complete missing number addition equations to 20. Year 2: To complete problem-solving questions based on 2, 5 and 10 timetables facts.

Literacy: Research a shop or place in Shawbury. Think about the opening times, where it is, who will visit and what it offers.

Science: Today we were dressing up as scientists to start out British Science Week so as we are not in school you can still have fun at completing some science activities. These activities will allow you to have fun in the snow outside!

Enjoy the snow day and have a lovely weekend. I will look forward to seeing photos and hearing about your snowmen and snow fun! 😊

Weekly Update

Dear parents/carers,

We have had an exciting last week in Class 3!

In Maths, Year 1 have been continuing with their numbers within 20, and we have been looking at addition within 20 to end the week. Year 2 have been we have been finishing off our money unit. The children worked fabulous this week solving two step problems and finding change.

In Literacy we have written our retells of Peter Rabbit. The children were able to include commas, conjunctions, and adverbs.

On Monday we had a visit from Mrs Edwards to talk about what babies need to survive. The children asked some great questions and were engaged throughout. We then created posters to share our knowledge.

In History we have finished our unit on ‘The Great Fire of London’. We had an exciting visitor in yesterday. A fireman came in and spoke to the children about his job, the equipment he uses and the uniform he wears. The children were able to tell him lots of facts about The Great Fire of London and asked some great questions! We then recreated pudding lane with the fantastic houses the children made as part of their homework project. The fireman set fire to a house, and we watched the fire spread, just like it did on Pudding Lane when the fire started in the bakery. This was a great experience for the children to watch. I have attached photos for you to see.

In DT we have planned, made, and evaluated our fire engines. The children made some great plans, outlined the resources they needed and what the purpose of the fire engine was for. They showed great creatives and perseverance skills when creating their fire engine.

Reminders:

  • A book bag book will be issued the day we are back (Monday 27th February)
  • PE – Tuesday and Thursday.

I hope you all have a great half term!

Class 3 Weekly Update

Dear parents/carers,

What a fantastic week in Class 3!

In Maths, Year 1s have been looking at creating fact families using part-whole models, to write their own addition and subtraction equations for the fact family. Year 2s have been subtracting 2 two-digit numbers using base ten to support their learning. Both Year 1 and 2 will be starting their new topic in Maths next week which is Geometry.

In Science we have been looking at the basic needs of animals, in particular the pets we have at home! We wrote lots about their basic needs such as: food, water, love, attention, shelter, warmth, owners. If you have a pet at home, we would love to have some pictures of the children with their pets for our display board. Please feel free to send them in next week, Thank you.

In English we have began looking at a new book Toby and The Great Fire of London, which links well to our history topic. This week we have been looking at the features of a diary entry in preparation to write our own next week.

In D&T we had a look at fire engines and their features, we were able to label these different features as well. Lots of children had seen a fire engine before, and some had even been in a fire engine which is amazing too. The children were using lots of prior knowledge during our discussion of what they knew fire engines had, which has helped support their learning.

In RE we have been learning about Judaism and the religious celebrations that Jewish people have. This week we have been learning about Hannukah, why it is so important to Jewish people, and how they celebrate it.

  • Remember to bring bookbags, coats and water bottles into school every day.
  • In the children’s reading record book, there is a home-school agreement for yourself and your child to sign. We have discussed this in class but it would be great if you could read through this with your child before signing. Thank you.
  • The children have been given a home project to complete by Thursday 26th of January linked to our topic the Great Fire of London.
  • The children will no longer have a slip in their reading records that tells you which sounds they are learning that week. You will be able to see what sounds the children have been learning in their spelling homework on seesaw.
  • Children will be bringing home a class library book to share with you over the weekend.
  • New reading books will be issued on Monday.
