British Science Week – open lessons with parents

It was wonderful to have our parents join us for our science lesson during British Science Week.

Carrying on the theme of climate change from our geography, we looked at the changes of temperature and water contact have on glaciers.

Year 5 compared the impact of ice with hot or cold water and timed the difference between each investigations.

Year 6 had more variables and used salt and sugar to see if the difference in timings to melt the ice was faster or slower.

We looked at the awe and wonder of magnetic forces and tested whether magnets are stronger when they are hot or cold.
we looked at the Shanghai Maglev train that uses magnetic levitation, eliminating friction to travel at high speeds.

We wanted to help Mr and Mrs Grinling to stop the seagulls eating their lunch. We investigated how we could use pulley systems to carry the basket of food.
Year 1 had one type of material whereas Year 2 had different materials to see which one was the best for the different types of spools.

We looked at micro plastic pollution and which materials were best at filtering out microplastics and how we can adapt our behaviours to try and solve the problem.

It was wonderful to have our parents join us for our science lesson during British Science Week.

We created our very own creature to live in a chosen habitat. The children shared how a nocturnal animal may have large eyes and if they live in a forest they may be great climbers.

Enrichment Archery and Cooking

New groups for ‘Enrichment Friday’. The children were super excited to be in their new groups. This half term our sporting group are learning new skills in archery and our oversubscribed cooking group started with making chocolate cookies. They needed to learn new skills to mix the ingredients and roll out to make a good size cookie.
