Refugee Week

In class 1 we had a presentation on Refugees. We used a world map and examples to show the children about refugees and who they are within our community. We linked this to our current topic of ‘People who help us’ as refugees have become police officers, actresses, Olympic swimmers and much more. The children engaged well and shared comments such as ‘We need to be kind to them so they feel safe here’, ‘we can be friends with them as they had to leave their friends in their home’ ‘we can give them our old toys if we have too many or we grow up’ when discussing refugee children.

Class 10 Weekly Update

Class 10 have been superstars enduring the hot weather this week and we are really proud of their resilience!

In Reading, children have finished reading Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman and have started their new book entitled Floodlands by Marcus Sedgwick. We are only 2 chapters in and are on the edges of our seats already!

Everyone has been very busy in Writing this week, writing a story from the perspective of a refugee. The standard of writing the children have produced is exceptional and it has been a pleasure listening to their stories.

In Maths, children have selected a holiday destination they would like to visit and are applying their mathematic skills to calculate a range of factors such as petrol costs, airport parking and hotel meals.

End of year events:

The prom will take place on Thursday 13th July at 5.30pm and invites went out today.

Next week, we will begin our rehearsals for the leaver’s assembly that takes place on Tuesday 18th July. The children  cannot wait to get started!

Class 10 will be starting a community project soon where they will be renovating the garden area outside class 9 and class10. The area is looking shabby and Year 6 pupils have the exciting challenge of bringing it back to life. Once complete, we are going to invite the local elderly community in on Friday 14th July to have tea and cake in the new garden area.

During the last week, we will be arranging an end of year water fight – more details to follow.

Sports Days:

On Monday19th June, please can children come to school in their PE kit as we will be having a sports day practice. The main event will take place on Tuesday 20th June in which parents/carers/relatives will be invited to come along to spectate.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes

Mr Walker and Mr Al-Asmar

Class 10 Weekly Update

This week has been another fantastic week in class 10!

In English, we have started to look at a new text ‘The Happy Hedgerow’. The story is a moral tale, with a message about taking care of our environment and the impact it has when we do not do this. We have taken part in a number of drama activities to help us understand the characters and their relationships and the plot. We are working towards writing our own moral tale this half term.

In geography, we are focusing on the United Kingdom. So far, we have learnt that the UK is made up of 12 regions, which we can name and locate on a map. We have also learnt the names and locations of several UK counties and cities. This week, we focused on the 8 point of a compass. We learnt that there are 4 cardinal points (N, S, E and W) and 4 ordinal points (NE, NW. SE and SW). We worked in pairs to give, and follow, instructions to locate landmarks at different points on the playground.

In RE, we are learning about what difference the resurrection makes Christians. We recorded evidence from gospel passages which prove Jesus’ resurrection and wrote witness statements from the perspective of Mary and the Disciples.

We hope you all enjoyed the snow while it lasted and have a lovely weekend.

Class 10 Weekly Update

We can’t quite believe that this is the end of another half term!

We have had another fantastic week and have worked extremely hard; we have been completing SATs practice papers and have shown great resilience.

We have also been making waistcoats in DT. We designed our waistcoats, cut out our templates and we are now in the process of joining the back and front pieces using running stitch. When we have finished our waistcoats, we will share some pictures of our finished products.

We hope you all have a lovely half term.
