Reception’s Magical Trip to Wonderland!

Our Reception children had a truly magical day on their trip to Wonderland today!

We began our adventure by following our map route to get there, travelling along the M54 and even spotting the Wrekin on the way. The children enjoyed comparing what they could see in Telford with our local area of Shawbury – such fantastic real-life learning!

When we arrived, we were greeted by the wonderful Mad Hatter, who welcomed us into a world full of imagination and fun. We danced, explored and visited the homes of some of our favourite storybook characters, including The Three Bears and Little Red Riding Hood.

After all that excitement, we enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch together before bravely trying out some of the rides – there were lots of smiles (and a few squeals of excitement!).

We finished our day with a story, a perfect calm ending to such a busy and magical experience.

It was a day loved by all, full of laughter, adventure and unforgettable memories!

Welcome back to Reception!

It has been lovely to welcome the children back after the Easter holidays. We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break.

This half term, our new topic is “Into the Woods”, and the children have already made a fantastic start. We began with a short nature walk, where the children explored their surroundings and collected a variety of natural objects. Back in the classroom, we used these to talk about what we found and practised sorting them in different ways.

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development, we have started our new topic on Relationships. This week, we have been thinking about our families and how we can help at home. The children have enjoyed sharing the different jobs they do, such as tidying their toys, helping set the table, or feeding pets.

It would be lovely for you to continue this conversation at home by talking about the ways your child helps your family. Perhaps they could even take on a new little job!

We are looking forward to another exciting half term of learning.

Class 1 Rock Kidz

This afternoon, the children thoroughly enjoyed their Rock Kidz session. The children had a wonderful time singing and dancing. They performed a monkey dance and learned a rock song.

We also had a dance battle between the children and the teachers. Mrs Jones tried her best but unfortunately the children were the winners!

Rock Kidz were able to deliver such important messages about kindness and inclusion in such a fun yet powerful way. So much fun had by all!

Science week in Class 1

Class 1 have enjoyed celebrating science week at forest school. We used our observations skills to hunt for mini beasts, thinking carefully about where we might find them and the sort of habitats they live in. Children used a wide range of vocabulary to discuss what they could see, thinking about the mini beasts individual features.

Back in class, we used our experiences to sort and classify the animals. Children engaged in meaningful debates – with some arguing that ladybirds did not have wings as they couldn’t be seen. Others were able to disagree, stating how they had observed the wings come from the ladybird’s body.

Later in the week, children worked hard to produce observational drawings. They thought carefully about the features discussed and ensured their work had lots of detail.

Feathered visitors for Reception!

On Friday, Mr and Mrs Main very kindly gave the children in reception the opportunity to meet their pet chickens.

Children asked lots of meaningful questions about caring for the chickens to find out more.

Children observed the chickens closely and used newly taught vocabulary to discuss their features and behaviour. As the chickens were so friendly, children were also given the opportunity to handle them. This gave a fantastic insight and also allowed the children to show bravery and resilience.

Thank you so much!

Map work in Class 1!

Next week the Class 1 children will be walking to the local farm shop to find out more about farm produce. In preparation, the children have enjoyed using Google Earth to explore the local area and map out a safe route to our destination.

Children then worked collaboratively to create large maps or individually to make personal maps of the local area. These will then be used on our journey.

Class 1 helicopter visit!

A huge thank you to RAF Shawbury for coming to visit our reception children as part of their transport topic.

The children were in awe as the helicopter landed on the school field.

Once the helicopter was stationary, they then had a wonderful time exploring the parts and features they could see. Children were able to ask questions to gain further understanding of what they could see.

Class 1’s Christmas Dinner

Class 1 thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas Dinner today. They wore their Christmas jumpers and Christmas hats into the hall and listened to Christmas music as they ate.

Children had the opportunity to try lots of festive foods such as turkey, cranberry sauce, pigs in blankets, roasted parsnips, and mince pies.

Thank you very much to the kitchen team for all their hard work, the food was delicious!

Class 1 – Forest School

This week we enjoyed spending time in the forest.
The children practiced getting themselves dressed and undressed for the forest. Some children found it tricky to put on their shoes/wellies so it would be great if you could also try this at home.

The children learnt important rules about staying safe in the forest such as avoiding nettles and brambles, not leaving through the ‘invisible gate’ without an adult and the use of ‘sticky elbows’ to recall children quickly.
