Class 10 Weekly News

We have reached the end of the first half term and we would like to say a huge ‘WELL DONE’ to Class 10. They have had a fantastic half term and a great start to Year 6.

This month is Black History Month and, in Class 10, we have been finding out more about Martin Luther King. We used the ‘I Have a Dream’ speech to write our own speeches, highlighting our dreams for the future. We had a very mature discussion about issues such as poverty, homophobia, suicide and bullying before writing our own speeches.

We also applied what we have learnt this half term about shading to create our own sketches of the ‘Power Fist’. The historic gesture has been used to represent the struggle for civil rights and the 1960s organisation The Black Panther Party has used it in the past as a symbol of resistance. The black power fist has also been adopted by allies of the black community as a symbol of black liberation.

We hope you all have a fantastic half term.

Weekly Update

It has been another busy week in Class 10 this week.

In RE, we have been considering creation and science, and whether they are conflicting or complementary. We looked at cosmology and evolution and considered how they differ to Genesis. After considering each, we wrote down all the questions we still had about Genesis, cosmology and evolution.

In history, we were lucky enough to have a virtual session with the British Museum. We learnt all about the Greek Gods and created our own mini Greek temples.

In English, we are working towards writing a persuasive speech from the perspective of Rosa Parks. We have identified the key features of persuasive texts and considered the effect of these on the audience. One of the things we have looked at in more detail is the subjunctive form. The subjunctive is used in formal writing to express things that could or should happen. We applied what we had learnt about the subjunctive to write sentences in preparation for our speech.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Class 10 Weekly Update

We have had a really busy week in Class 10 this week.

Bikeability

From Monday to Thursday we participated in Bikeability, learning how to cycle safely, competently and confidently on the road. We all really enjoyed the experience although groups 3 and 4 got quite wet!

English

In English, we have been looking at poetry. Today, we wrote our own poems about the war in Ukraine. Have a look at some of our fantastic work below:

Science

In science, we have been looking at life cycles. This week, we learnt that most amphibians and insects undergo metamorphosis. We know what metamorphosis means and we explained the life cycle of a frog and a ladybird.

History

In history, we looked at democracy in the Ancient Greek period. We learnt what the word ostracism means and we compared Ancient Greek democracy to modern day democracy.

Religious Education

In RE, we explored Genesis 1:1 – 2:3, looking at the importance of creation on the timeline of the ‘big story’ of the bible and drawing our own interpretation of what it means.

Have a lovely weekend.
