Class 10 Weekly Update

Class 10 have had the most fantastic term! They have worked so hard and blown us away with their resilience and determination. This week, we looked at the impact of migration on life in Britain, focusing on food art (photography) and music. We researched on an artist called Peter Brathwaite who recreates famous historic portraits using everyday household items. We worked in pairs to recreate paintings using items found in the classroom and around school.

We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the Christmas break and we look forward to seeing you all again in January.

Class 10 Weekly Update

Class 10 had their class assembly last week and it was so lovely to have so many parents, grandparents and carers come to share in our learning.

We shared some of the fantastic work we did for Black History Month in October, including our wonderful power fist artwork and our Rosa Parks speeches and poems.

We also shared what we have been learning in history. We presented some of the fantastic PowerPoints we produced about different migrant groups and their experiences of coming to Britain.

We really enjoyed sharing everything we have learnt this term.

Have a lovely weekend.

Class 10 Weekly Update

It has been another fantastic week in Class 10 this week.

Maths

In maths, we have been looking at BODMAS, which is an acronym to help us remember the order of mathematical operations – the correct order in which to solve maths problems. BODMAS stands for B-Brackets, O-Orders (powers/indices or roots), D-Division, M-Multiplication, A-Addition, S-Subtraction.

Writing

In writing, we have been completing the first draft of our autobiographies. Next week, we will be editing these and writing our final version. We will share some of our final versions when they are finished.

PSHE

In PSHE, we have been talking about celebrating difference. This week, we have been talking about the protected characteristics. It is against the law to discriminate against anyone because of:

  • age.
  • gender reassignment.
  • being married or in a civil partnership.
  • being pregnant or on maternity leave.
  • disability.
  • race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin.
  • religion or belief.
  • sex.

We focused on gender reassignment and we learnt that people’s biological sex doesn’t always match their gender identity.

Have a lovely weekend.

Parliament Week Videos

Unfortunately, I was unable to upload our Parliament speeches to the website as the files were too large. I have uploaded the videos to Seesaw so that you can view them. The QR code below will take you to the Seesaw page, or you can just log into Seesaw as you would when you complete your homework.

Class 10 Weekly Update

There has been lots going on in Class 10 this week; it has been Anti-Bullying Week, Parliament Week and Book Day.

Parliament Week

We learnt that Parliament is made up of three central elements: the House of Commons, the House of Lords and the Monarchy. The main business of Parliament takes place in the two Houses. Generally the decisions made in one House have to be approved by the other.

We created our own political parties, drew up our manifestos and delivered our speeches to the rest of the school on Thursday. The party who received the most votes were KAETEK; it was a very close contest and all the parties were absolutely fantastic!

Well done Year 6.

Have a lovely weekend.

Class 10 Weekly Update

Please accept my apologies that our weekly update is late this week.

Last week was another fantastic week in Class 10. Here are some of the things we learnt:

Purple Leaf

Purple Leaf came in for their second session. We talked about feelings and behaviours and used the analogy of an iceberg to help us understand that what is going on on the outside can be misinterpreted because we don’t understand what is happening on the inside.

Writing

In writing, we are now looking at autobiographies. We identified the key features and began to look at some of the features in more detail.

History

In history, we looked at push and pull factors:

Push factors “push” people away from their home and include things like war.

Pull factors “pull” people to a new home and include things like better opportunities.

We decided whether each of the push/pull factors were social, economic or political. We then thought about which migrant group this linked to and how.

Finally, we compared the experiences of two different migrant groups, considering similarities and differences and the reasons for these.

Class 10 Weekly Update

We have had another fantastic week in Class 10.

Purple Leaf

On Wednesday, we had some visitors from ‘Purple Leaf’. They talked to us about the rights we have as children. We discussed what we would do if one of our friends asked us to watch a video that was not age-appropriate. We also talked about the people we would go to for help if we were feeling unsafe or worried about something.

Writing

We have been continuing with our Rosa Parks speeches. We have almost finished and will share some examples here when we do.

PSHE

In PSHE, we are celebrating difference. This week, we considered the word ‘normal’. We decided that there is no normal and that people’s differences are what make them special and unique.
