Fundraising Group

A big thank you to our Parent Fundraising Group who have allocated £1,000 towards school trips. Each class will have £100 towards an in-school workshop or an educational trip out.

This will allow trips to be subsides for all children.

The fundraising group had their first meeting of the new academic year and have plans for a spooky disco in October and a Christmas fair in December.

The group are always looking for new parents to join and welcome anyone who can volunteer to help run the events.  If you are interested, please let the office know.

Carrier bag reminder.

If your child/children haven’t already done so…

Please could each child bring in a heavy duty carrier bag tomorrow ( a ‘bag for life’ would be good) so that they have an extra bag in school for when we are able to send their past books home. This is likely to be on Thursday but we may send home some books/belongings different days.

Class 2 Weekly Update

What a busy week in Class 2!

In maths Y1s have explored money. I was very impressed with the children’s prior knowledge of money, they talked about the concepts of rich and poor, telling me that they believed rich people should contribute to charities to help others. They knew that grown-ups earnt money to pay for the things we need such as food, clothes and toys. We then explored coins using Mr Jones’ money box! The children then looked carefully at the different coins, comparing their colours and shapes. We then used dienes to understand the value of each coin. The children then practised recognising coins and enjoyed playing shop keepers. Reception children have worked hard to solidify their knowledge of the composition numbers to 10. They have engaged with missing number problems using counters and part, part, whole models.

In literacy children in Y1 have been learning about postcards. They understood the features of postcards and enjoyed looking at those brought in by parents and staff. Thank you to everybody who donated postcards, the children loved to see them! We then planned our own postcard, writing from the perspective of a day out at the beach. Children had lots of wonderful ideas that they were then able to write down in their final piece on Friday. We had lots of WOW work with interesting vocabulary, conjunctions and carefully chosen adjectives. Reception children continued their work on ‘Litterbug Doug’, thinking of ways to care for our environment. They went to forest school to practise litter picking, thought about recyclable materials, re-used rubbish to make excellent junk-models and thought carefully about turning off the lights when we leave the room to save electric. Children then made their own posters describing 5 ways to care for planet earth.

Year 1 children had a wonderful time in Llandudno this week. They walked along the promenade, explored the pier and played on the beach. We then had ice creams and watched a Punch and Judy show. They thought carefully about the human and physical features they could see and also thought about how their entertainment would have been different in the Victorian times. Once child said, “It’s a good job that we are not in the Victorian times because we would have to pay lots of money to have a rest on these benches!” The children were impeccably behaved and had a lovely time, despite those pesky seagulls trying to pinch our lunch! Many thanks to our parent helpers.

Reminders next week:

Tuesday – PE.

Thursday – Outdoor learning.

Friday – We will be having an end of term class party! Children are welcome to bring a board game to play in the afternoon.

Please can you check at home for any school books and ensure that these are returned in your child’s bag on Thursday. We will be collecting all reading books and library books on Thursday.

Please can children also bring a strong carrier bag to school on Friday to take their school books home. Many thanks!

I hope you all have a good weekend!

See you on Monday!

Mrs Jones.

Postcards

Good evening,

Please could the children have a look at home, ask parents and grandparents if anybody has any postcards they wouldn’t mind sharing as part of our English learning next week?

It would be lovely for the children to experience real postcards before they write their own later in the week.

Best wishes

Mrs Edwards, Miss Longland, Miss Styles and Mrs Jones

Class 2 Weekly Update

This week we have been busy learning lots of new things.

In maths Year 1 children have continued their work on place value within 100, thinking about the numerical patterns they can see and partitioning 2-digit numbers. Reception children have been thinking about height. They have worked hard to use the language of ‘taller’ and ‘shorter’ (rather than big and small) to compare the heights of the children within their class. They then compared their toys and other objects around school and even made posters to highlight their knowledge! As an extension, they alo used rulers to begin to measure using standard measurements, wow!

In literacy Year 1s have been learning about instructions. We have learnt the features of instructions, what imperative verbs are and what adverbials of time are. The children understood the importance of writing clear instructions in chronological order as they gave each other written instructions and had to decipher what to do! They have begun to write their own instructions titled ‘What to pack for a day at the seaside’ and will finish these off next week.

Reception children have been writing about their knowledge of the dentist and also writing instructions on how to brush their teeth! They were able to apply their incredible phonetic knowledge to spell words such as ‘toothbrush’ and ‘toothpaste’ phonetically by breaking these words down into more manageable syllables.

In geography Y1s looked at human and physical features at the seaside. The children are now very confident in what human and physical features are. In PSHE Y1s have been learning about differences in boys and girls and how we change as we get older. The children were very respectful and mature about this – well done. In art, we created seaside collages. We used different materials to create the seaside picture. I have uploaded some photos of them for you to see.

The reception children enjoyed continuous provision in Class 1 whilst the Y1s conducted their PSHE sessions. They have enjoyed exploring the outdoor area and also completed some work on their transitions into Year 1 with Miss Chapman.

Reminders next week:

Tuesday 4th July – Move-up day! Children will still come into Class 2 to register, but will then make their way into their new classes for a wonderful day with their new teachers.

Thursday 6th July – Class 2 assembly at 2:50pm.

Wednesday 5th  and Friday 7th  – Class 2 is closed.

I hope that you enjoy reading the children’s wonderful reports. They have worked their socks off this year and I am so, so proud of each and every child’s individual achievements, and they should be too! It has been an absolute pleasure to be able to teach your children, we have grown into a tight-knit school family where the children work collaboratively and have a deep love of learning. Although it would have been lovely to teach them again next year, I am on an adventure myself! As we only need 3 KS1 classes next year, I will be moving into nursery! This means that I will get the chance to teach some of the children’s younger siblings which will be wonderful.

I hope you all have a good weekend!

See you on Monday!

Mrs Jones.

Class 2 weekly update

What a busy week!

Well done for all the children competing in their races for sports day. It was great to see their positivity and collaboration within their team.

This week has been interfaith week and KS1 have been focusing on the religion ‘Sikh’. We learnt all about their religion, created some artwork and tasted some of the food they eat. We have been extremely lucky to also have pupils share their own experiences and provide information books and photographs for us to look at to strengthen our understanding. At the end of the week, we shared our learning with the rest of the school today and was able to see what other classes have been learning this week.

In Maths, reception children have been using the rekenreks to explore one more and one less. Due to the children’s excellent understanding, they were then able to use mathematically language to play reasoning games such as “I’m exploring one more, I now have 7 beads. How many did I start with?”.

In literacy, reception children read a new book “Harry and the dinosaurs go to the dentist”. They discuss their own experiences and were then able to write sentences using their phonetic knowledge. We have been trying very hard to include red words such as ‘they’ and ‘like’ in our writing.

In Maths and literacy this week, the Year 1 children have been working hard to complete their end of year quizzes. Well done to all children, you have worked so hard and I am so very proud of each and every one of you!

In Geography, Year 1 children have started a new unit ‘Seasides’. We looked at the map of the UK and identify the seas, countries, and compass directions.

Reminders:

  • PE will be back to normal next week; Tuesday and Friday.
  • PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO OUTDOOR LEARNING NEXT WEEK DUE TO KS1 RSE WEEK.
  • Careers event 26th June 2-5pm.
  • Grandfathers lunch on Wednesday 28th.
  • 1st July school summer fayre.
  • Have a fabulous weekend!

Mrs Jones

People who help us visitor

Today the reception children had a very exciting visit from our local police officer and CSO.

The children learnt about the uniform and equipment that is needed and even got the chance to sit in the police car and put on the sirens!

The children have kindly be gifted a bike/scooter light and reflective stickers to help keep them safe.

Class 2 Weekly update

Dear parents/carers,

What a brilliant week in Class 2!

Year 1 children have engaged with the phonics screening check and we could not be more proud of the progress the children have made. All children thoroughly enjoy their phonics sessions and show a keen interest in decoding which. Their engagement has been apparent in the way they read every week, not just this one!

Year 1s in Maths have been learning about position and direction. We have been practised using lots of language related to position and direction, including practising our left and right turns, moving forwards and backwards and exploring whether objects are above or below. Children have loved learning through song, singing to hockey cockey and dancing to the Cha Cha slide!

Reception children have been exploring number bonds to 5, exploring the related subtraction facts. Children started with concrete resources and manipulatives, working in a partnership to share gems between two butterfly wings.

In literacy, we have continued our learning related to our story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. Children have enjoyed being engaged in new vocabulary and learning about the purpose of a lighthouse and the job of a lighthouse keeper! This week they have innovated the story, thinking of a new problem for the characters to face! Their imagination has been fantastic and their writing has been equally as impressive.

We have also begun our new Georgraphy unit. We are continuing to focus on the seaside, but are now looking at the landscape from a geographers perspective, thinking about the human and physical features that can be seen.

Reminders

  • Sports Day – Tuesday 20th All children to have sun cream applied before school and bring a hat and water bottle.
  • Outdoor learning on Thursday afternoon – loose/light-weight trousers and long-sleeved top would be beneficial.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Jones.

Class 2 weekly update

This week we have been very busy in Class 2!

In Maths Year 1 we have been finding halves of shapes and quantities. We have also been learning to tell the time, looking at o’clock and half past the hour.

Reception children have been solidifying their knowledge of number bonds to 10, drawing part, part, whole models and focussing on instant recall. They have also been testing their counting skills, counting to 20 and beyond, thinking about the patterns they can see/hear and writing numerals from 11-20.

In Literacy Year 1 have been writing a letter as if they were a Victorian. At the start of the week, we looked at our five senses and how we can describe different aspects of the beach. We then hung these on our class washing line for the children to refer to them in their learning.

Reception children have been writing descriptions of the bear from the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ and then wrote a letter from the perspective of the bear, inviting a friend to their cave.

In History Year 1 looked at Llandudno then and now. We then created news reports as if we were there. The children loved this activity!

Reception children had a wonderful time on their trip to Altringham park on Thursday. All children were impeccably behaved and had lots of stories to tell when they returned to school.

Children have worked collectively to achieve 100 dojos for our class reward! Congratulations, Class 2! Therefore, On Monday 5th June (the first day back) children are encouraged to bring in their favourite story from home. The children will also be decorating a cake or biscuit to enjoy as we turn our classroom into ‘Starbooks’ for the afternoon.

Reminders:

Next half term PE will continue to be a Tuesday and Friday.

We will also be doing outdoor learning sessions on a Thursday afternoon. Now that the weather is warmer and dryer, children could wear sensible shoes (i.e. trainers) rather than wellies if they wish. However, please send you child to school in their normal school shoes and provide sensible shoes/trainers/wellies in a bag.

Children will need hats in school now that the weather is warmer.  Children are welcome to bring sun cream to school but please explain to your child that this is personal to them and should not be shared with any other children due to allergies. It would better if you could apply an all day sun cream before your child comes to school.

Have a great half term 😊
