Christmas Counts Nativity

The children were given their costume letters yesterday for this years KS1 Nativity ‘Christmas Counts’. Please check bags as these detail what the children will be in the play and the costumes needed.

Today we have given out the lines that children need to learn if their character in the Nativity has a speaking part. You will find these in their reading records! Please allow a couple of minutes a night to read through these and memorise. I have given the whole page the lines fall on so the children can see who they speak after/before to help with prompting.

Phonics sounds that will be covered this week

Common exception/high frequency words (these are tricky words that they cannot sound out to support spelling). Please take some time to review them with the children at home so they become familiar with reading and spelling these.

Year 1: your, was, will, with

Year 2: Year 1 common exception words + behind, cold, break, pretty

The sounds we will be focusing on/revisiting this week are oa, ur, oi, ear and er.

Words that the children may want to practise spelling at home are:

oa = toad, oak,

ur = fur, burn, curl

oi – coin, oil, foil, soil

ear = dear, fear, hear

er = fern, her

The children will not be tested on these but additional practise at home will help them with phonics work in class.

Please take the time to write in home diaries over the weekend and hand these in Monday 18th November.

Squirrels Class Homework

It was lovely to meet you all at parents evening on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and to show you all of the hard work the children have been doing in class! The feedback about the Home Diaries has been really positive and I’ve enjoyed reading what the children have been doing in their own time. There is no pressure to write in these every night as long as the children have a go at writing regularly, this would really be beneficial to them in class.

I have provided the children with a green homework folder to bring home tonight. I will be setting Maths homework every two weeks on a Friday for the children to complete, following their learning in class.

Year 1 children have been given work on their numbers to 10 and 20.

Year 2 have been given work on numbers to 20 written as words and comparing and ordering numbers to 100.

Please return homework before or on Friday 11th October 2019.

Have a great weekend!
