Spooky Disco Arrangements

The ‘Spooky’ discos are on Thursday this week.

Nursery, Reception and KS1 children will be taken into the disco at 1.45pm, if they have a ticket.  All other children will remain in class. Children will then go back to class at 2.45pm and be collected from the classroom as normal at the end of the day.

KS2 children will go into the disco at 3pm, if they have a ticket. All other children will remain in class and will then be taken onto the playground at hometime as usual. At the end of the disco (4pm) the main door in reception will be opened and you can collect your child from the school hall.  Please enter the hall through the door opposite the nursery and leave the hall through the door opposite the Stars room.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Shropshire Falconry Visit

A big thank you to Lisa who visited today with birds of prey from the Shropshire Falconry. The children were well behaved and enjoyed seeing lots of species of birds!

Squirrel’s Forest School session

Today was extremely muddy and water logged at forest school (very fun!), the children were all asked to wear waterproofs from school, some children chose to wear their own waterproofs so these will be coming home tonight muddy and potentially still wet! Please could all children have suitable footwear next week just in case it is wet underfoot again.

We did lots of bug hunting, playing in the mud kitchen and we found a frog!

Squirrels weekly update

We have had a great week in Squirrels class! The children really enjoyed their first Forest School session on Wednesday. This will be every Wednesday afternoon so please remember outdoor footwear!

The children have been given a Home Diary and pencil today to encourage regular writing. Please return these each Monday to quickly share together as a class. More information is given inside the diary.

We ask the children to read their reading book at least twice at home, parents to write a comment about how they have done and then to return it to the blue basket in the classroom, to be changed in the mornings. Please also note we do not have parent communication books in KS1 and any messages are to be passed on through the school office or adult on the door in the mornings.

Thank you for your support!

Have a great weekend.

Forest School

Squirrels first session in Forest School yesterday!

Squirrel’s Forest School

Squirrel’s Class (Mrs Edwards class) will be starting Forest school on Wednesday afternoon and this will continue each Wednesday PM.

Please bring in sensible footwear e.g. old trainers, wellies or boots to change into. We have water proof coats and trousers in school for every child, however if you’d like to provide your own then please send these into school on Wednesday mornings. Later on in the term as the weather changes, the children will need to bring in warmer clothes to wear underneath the waterproofs such as jumpers, joggers, socks, etc. Girls will need to wear trousers or leggings on a Wednesday as legs need to be covered to avoid stings from nettles and thorns.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate in coming to see me.

Thank you!

Squirrel’s Class Phonics

The sounds we will be focusing on/revisiting this week are ay, ee and igh. The children are encouraged to say a sentence after each sound to help them remember these.

ay – may I play?

ee – what can you see?

igh – fly high

Words that the children may want to practise spelling at home are day, play, may, see, three, green, high, night and light. The children will not be tested on these but additional practise at home will help them with phonics work in class.

I have now heard all of the children read in Squirrel’s class and have changed their books accordingly to suit them. Please ensure you write in their record when they have read at home and encourage your child to place their book and record in the basket in the morning if it needs changing.

Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Squirrel’s Class!

A huge well done for completing your first week in Squirrels class! I am very impressed with how well the children have settled into our new routine and look forward to getting to know you all in the next few weeks.

The children have been given their reading books and records today after reading with the year 6 children in our “buddy swap” which happens every other Friday. Please allow a few weeks for us to hear all of the children read and get to know the level they’re at, their reading colour/stage may change as we hear them and decide which suits them best. We encourage all children to read regularly at home and ask that an adult writes a written comment about how they’ve managed after they have read. This also informs us of when a book needs changing.

Squirrel’s class need their PE kits in school everyday as PE days sometimes change. They will be asked to take their PE kits home every Friday and return these on a Monday. Please note our planned PE days are Tuesday (Jujitsu) and Wednesday (throwing and catching).

Each Monday I will post about the Phonics sounds the children will be focussing on and a few words they may come across that week to practise spelling at home. We do not test the children on these spellings but it will help them to recognise our sounds within their Literacy work.

The children have been coming into class independently each morning and settling down straight away, well done Squirrels!

If you have any questions at all please come and see me at the end of the day at the classroom door!

Have a great weekend!
