End of the year!

Wow! This year has flown by, I can’t believe it is already the last day of term. Thank you so much for all the gifts, cards and well wishes I really appreciate them. All of the children in Class 4 have grown in confidence, formed strong friendships and learnt lots and lots! I have felt very privileged to be their teacher and their teachers next year are very lucky!

We have been trying our best to keep cool this week with lots of fun activities too. We made stages with pictures and writing about their favourite part of the year, played summer themed bingo and did word searches. We have also written all about our dreams and what job we would like to do in the future. These were lovely to read!

I have attached a couple of resources for things to do over the summer holidays. The children are already familiar with Zen Den Yoga and Mindfulness and Disney Dancing and there is lots more to explore. My_Activity_Passport Active Families Holiday Challenge

I hope you have an enjoyable summer and enjoy your new class. I am sure you will all settle in quickly and achieve so much!

Weekly message!

Well done Class 4 for another super week. It has been very hot this week but the children have worked very hard and enjoyed learning outside the classroom too.

Maths: This week Year 1 have finished off their learning on numbers to 100. We have been using number lines and bears to add one more and one less to numbers. We then started to look at money. We have been recognising different coins and adding coins together.

Year 2: This week Year 2 have been continuing their work on weight and mass. They have been comparing the masses of different objects and finding alternative ways to make the values.

Literacy: This week we have started to read the book ‘Amelia Earhart’ by Isabel Sanchez Vegara. We then used this book as a starting point to find out more information and facts about Amelia’s life. We used these facts to make a biography all about Amelia’s life.

Science: This week we have enjoyed learning about exercise as part of the work we have been doing recently on keeping healthy. We have explored all the different exercises that we could do and why exercise is important. We then talked about sleep and the importance children getting an appropriate amount of sleep each night.

Geography: This week we have been looking at the continent Australia. We looked at the physical feature the Great Barrier Reef and learnt about the difficulties that people trying to protect the reef face. We discussed how people could help to protect the reef.

I have not given the children any homework this week as we finish on Wednesday next week. Enjoy the sunshine and reading this weekend instead. Please can you check at home and return all RWI and school books next week.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Weekly update

It has been another busy week in Class 4! It was lovely to see the children so excited chatting about their new classes and teachers this week. Thank you to all the grown ups who came to watch our class assembly. I think you will agree that the children have worked so hard and it definitely paid off.

This week in Literacy we have been looking in more depth at some of the features in our book ‘Emma- Jane’s aeroplane’. We looked at the rhyming words as well as hot seating some of the characters. Next week we are looking forward to starting our final book of the year!

In maths this week Year 1 have been practicing their numbers to 100 and comparing them using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols. We also consolidated the work we started last week on tens and units. This week Year 2 finished their topic of time by finding and comparing durations of time.

Science: Building on our work looking at the ‘eatwell’ plate and food groups the children drew their own meal making sure to include a variety of foods. We had a few funny combinations like weetabix and sausages!

At some point next week please could you send a strong bag in with your child. It would be very helpful if this could already be named. The children can then leave these in their trays and start adding their books and work until the end of term.

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly news!

Well done for having another fabulous week in school Class 4! This week we returned more to the ‘normal’ routine but still had time for lots of fun activities.

Maths: Year 1 have been exploring numbers up to 100. We have partitioned these into tens and ones and compared which is greater or less than. The homework I have sent home this week will support this learning further.

Year 2: This week Year 2 looked at time! We have been using our knowledge of fractions to help recognise ‘quarter past’ ‘half past’ and ‘quarter to’. We then went on to look at time in intervals of 5 minutes and recognise if the time was ‘past’ or ‘to’. Year 2’s homework will strengthen their understanding of our learning this week. It would be very useful if you could do some real world practice with your children to. Making a note of the time they have breakfast, leave for the park, go to bed, brush their teeth etc.

Literacy: This week we have been writing our own story inspired by ‘Emma-Jane’s aeroplane’. We first explored noun phrases and exciting adjectives so we could use these in our stories. We drew pictures of the setting, beginning, problem and resolution to help us to plan our ideas.

DT: This week we worked in 2 teams to make den’s that were big enough for us to use. We had to find longer sticks so we could still make the strong triangle shape. A lot of thought went into the best location for each den. Suitable branches, how soft the ground was and proximity to the fire square were all considered. Finally each team pitched their den and it’s features to try and persuade everyone it was the best!

Class Assembly: We are looking forward to inviting Class 4’s grown ups into school next Thursday to show the highlights of our learning this half term. If you would like to attend please return the slip or speak to me so the right amount of chairs can be arranged.

Reminders: Books need to be brought into school everyday. Children have the opportunity to read books from the book corner during the day and they can take them home at the weekend. During our ‘DEAR’ time they need to be reading their RWI book.

Wednesday: Forest school – old trainers or wellies.

Thursday: PE – School PE kit.

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly update!

We have had another jam packed week! On Monday morning we were very lucky that Milla and her family brought in their newly hatched ducklings and their Mum for us to see. We learnt why ducks have webbed feet and spotted the differences between a duckling and an adult duck. We also had the chance to look at the size differences between eggs from different birds. Thank you Milla’s family!

We have also been having a very sporty week with a practice then our official sports day. It was lovely to see everyone taking part in the variety of events as well as cheering on other children in their house. I had lots of 1st, 2nd and 3rd stickers to hand out so well done class 4!

This week we combined our DT and our forest school learning to make dens. We discussed the strongest shapes to place our sticks in as well as how we could make them watertight. There was also some lovely decorations, carpets, beds and more. The animals in forest school will be very pleased!

Maths: This week both Year 1 and 2 have been looking at direction, positions and turns. This work has linked nicely to our robot programming computing topic and we have completed lots of practical work.

Literacy: On Monday we made some predictions about our new topic ‘Emma – Jane’s Aeroplane’ by Katie Haworth. We have identified the proper nouns within the story as well as creating a story map of all the events.

As the weather is now much warmer please can all children bring a hat into school every day.

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly news!

We have had an amazing week that has been jam packed with lots of different activities!

Attingham farm trip:

We had a super trip to the farm as part of the our science topic ‘animals and their needs’. We met the farmers and were given a bag of feed each before going on a tour around the farm. The children had the opportunity to feed sheep, pigs, cows, peacocks, turkeys, chickens and goats. We also had a tour of the old milking parlour as well as the new robotic milking machines. We discussed which animals we saw were born live and which laid eggs. The children had some very interesting questions to ask the farmers.

Sports day practice:

We had a practice run through of all of the races on Wednesday. This gave us the opportunity to practice as well as for all children to try each activity. All children have chosen a race to take part in and they have been sent home with a letter saying what colour t-shirt they need to wear next Tuesday.

Geography:

This week we started our new topic called ‘Explorers’. This week we identified the seven continents on a map. We then looked at physical and human features of different countries in Europe.

Have a lovely weekend!

Decades week!

We have definitely learnt lots of information about important events and what it was like to live in the 1960’s!

Maths: This week we made a human block diagram to show which 60’s song was the children’s favourite. We have been using out knowledge of money to find out and compare the prices of household items in the 1960’s and 2022. See if your child can name some of the items that are cheaper today!

Literacy: We have been learning all about acrostic poems and starting the week by writing a poem using the word ‘Queen’ together. We then used dictionaries to choose words starting with the letters need to write our own poems called ‘Sixties’.

RE: We were very lucky to have Reverend Rich visit school to talk to the children about baptism as two of the Queen’s children were baptised in the 1960’s. We learnt about some of the important symbolic steps that are taken when a baby is being baptised. We also had the opportunity to do some role play and watch a doll being baptised!

Art: We have been working as a class to create an amazing pop art inspired painting. We used an outline of the Queen’s head as our repeated image and used bright, bold colours to paint. We have placed everyone’s pictures together to make our large class painting.

History: We have been learning about many significant events that happened during the 1960’s including space travel. We have looked at the progress that led up to the moon landing and designed astronaut suits that would keep us safe in space.

PE: This week we looked at the 60’s dancing. We practiced solo and pair dancing to the song ‘Lets twist again’. The children had great fun putting together sequences of twisting and turning movements.

Next week please could children come into school wearing PE kit on Wednesday and Thursday as we will be practicing sports day events on Wednesday in place of outdoor learning.

Please can homework be returned on a Thursday and books be brought into school every day.

Thank you!

Half term!

Wow! We have had a very exciting week in Class 4!

On Monday a helicopter landed in the school field. It was amazing to see inside the helicopter and we were very lucky to have all of our questions answered by the pilot and his crew members.

We had a lovely afternoon today celebrating the Queen’s jubilee. There was lots of different activities and games that the children could play and take part in. We will be continuing our learning about the jubilee and the Queen’s reign during the first week back when we will be focusing on the decade of the 60’s.

Maths: Year 1: We have been practically finding a quarter of different shapes as well as exploring how many different ways a square can be split into equal parts. The children shared objects into 4 equal groups to find a quarter of an amount.

Year 2: We have been looking at measuring length using the units cm and m. The children have practically measured objects and have decided what unit of measurement would be best for each.

Literacy: We gathered lots of facts all about Orangutans that we have used to write a report. This non chronological report contained a title and subheadings to organise all of the facts.

D and T: After planning our fruit salads we made them this week! We learnt how to safely cut fruit into smaller pieces. We peeled and prepared a variety of fruits then completed an evaluation.

Well done for finishing another half term in such a positive way Class 4! You have all worked really hard with your learning and deserve a super break.

Class 4 update

A big well done to all of Year 2 for having a fantastic attitude toward their quizzes (SATs) this week. I am very proud that you all tried your best and showed off all of the learning that you have done in school.

Literacy: This week we have been looking at newspaper articles. We have identified features, workshopped some fabulous headlines and have been hot seating as the orangutan and the girl from our class book.

Maths: This week we have been looking at finding half of different shapes. We started with squares, rectangles and triangles of paper that we folded in half. We then moved onto finding half of more complex shapes. We have been exploring the fact that half is a fraction and how we can write this.

Computing: We had great fun with our robots this week. We have learnt how to create sequences that move the robot to the correct square on a mat. We had to use all of our coding skills that we have learnt so far and the new skills of debugging to problem solve if the robot went a different direction!

Science: We have had some very exciting visitors in class 4 this week! We have a collection of caterpillars that will hopefully develop into butterflies before half term.

Homework: This week the children have been given homework linked to the work we have completed in class. Please support your child to access this work as it will consolidate their learning.

Reading book: This Monday we had almost all of the children bring their reading records and diaries into school. Can we see if this Friday everyone can bring their book into school to be changed?

Have a lovely weekend
