Class 6 and 8 Science news

Classes 6 and 8 have been busy creating a fantastic class book to showcase their science learning. Throughout the project, pupils explored living things in our environment, including the differences between invertebrates and vertebrates. They also investigated how environments change over time and discussed practical ways we can all help to protect and care for the world around us. The finished book highlights their curiosity, creativity, and growing understanding of science in action.

Year 4 Multiplication Practice Cards

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 4 children will be bringing home multiplication cards to help support their times table recall and fluency ahead of the Multiplication Tables Check taking place in June.

The check focuses on quick recall of multiplication facts, so we would really appreciate your support in helping your child practise for a few minutes each day. Regular short practice sessions can make a huge difference to confidence and speed. TTRS has been a huge hit with the children and we would like the children to continue accessing this as much as they can.

When practising, please encourage your child to say the multiplication facts in a quick recall format, for example:

“2, 6, 12”
rather than
“2 times 6 is 12.”

This helps children develop the rapid recall needed for the check.

The cards also include a pictorial representation on the back to support understanding. Children should first try to answer using recall from memory, only using the picture if they need extra support.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child build confidence and fluency with their times tables.

Kind regards,
Year 4 Team

Year 3/4 Science

In our Year 3/4 science lesson, pupils worked collaboratively in pairs and small groups to explore how animals can be classified. Using a range of picture cards, they carefully observed different animals and discussed their features before sorting them into the five vertebrate groups: amphibians, reptiles, mammals, fish and birds. This activity encouraged teamwork, scientific discussion, and deeper understanding of how animals are grouped based on their characteristics.
