Our story scrapbook

In class 6, we are starting a story scrapbook, the children are very excited about it.

Each week, (either a Monday or a Friday), I will be sending home our new Story scrapbook, along with a box of crafting/scrapbooking materials with one child from our class.

While they have the scrapbook at home (either weekdays or a weekend), they need to use their imagination and the craft supplies to fill a page in the scrapbook with information about a book they have read, enjoyed and would want to recommend to others.

I have written further instructions inside the scrapbook:

I have also completed the first page in the book, based on a book I have already read and that we are currently reading in class together. Here is the example:

The idea is that as each child completes a page in the scrapbook, together we will fill the book with creative, colourful and engaging pages of book reviews that will encourage each other to read.

As this book and the craft box will be coming and going between homes and school, please encourage the children to take care of the book and box, keeping the craft supplies neat and tidy and using the materials fairly.

I really look forward to seeing the first page completed 🙂

Thanks,

Miss Taylor

Reading the Game

On Tuesdays, Class 6 and 7 are lucky enough to have Coach Neil in class to deliver the ‘Reading the Game’ programme.

Half of the session is spent in the classroom developing reading and comprehension skills and the other half is spent outside practicing football skills and playing football games.

We had a very exciting visitor today, Lenny the Lion ! Lenny asked the children to make sure they continue to read at home at least 3 times a week to be in with the chance of one boy and one girl to win a ticket to a Shrewsbury Town game.

Here are some photos of our day 🙂

Class 6 Homework

The children should have bought home their RWI (spelling) log books today so that they can practice a list of spellings over the weekend, these books need to be bought back into school on Monday please. The children should practice both reading and writing their list of words please.

I have also sent home a football competition sheet to design a football boot for the children to enter if they would like to. They will have the opportunity to win a £50 voucher, a football shirt and £2000 for our school 🙂  The competition ends on 4th February so all entries must be returned to school by Monday 1st February please.

The world of water

As part of our Geography topic – Natural resources and thanks to Mr and Mrs Gillson, we were able to arrange an assembly for Class 6 and 7 about the world of water from the Education officer at Severn Trent.

It was a fantastic way to get us thinking more about water as a natural resource and what we can do to help make sure that the water we have in the world, continues to be renewable if we take care of it. I am sure that your child/children will be able to tell you some different ways that they can reduce the amount of water they use at home.

Severn Trent have lots of useful information and resources on their website if the children were inspired to learn more – https://www.stwater.co.uk/about-us/education-zone/primary-education/

Thank you to Chris at Severn Trent – here are some pictures- Water assembly

Literacy

For the literacy, the children must use the sentence starters to write arguments defending which season they think is their favourite and then justify that. For example, “I’m absolutely certain that Autumn is the best season because ___________”.

Class 6 Homework

Today I have sent home a homework activity grid – see attachment, (please ignore the blank page on there) –Shrewsbury and Anglo Saxons homework grid. I have sent home these activity grids with past year groups for homework and the children have seemed to really enjoy them and are motivated and keen to complete the variety of tasks.

The grid is for the rest of the Autumn term, focusing on Shrewsbury and the Anglo-Saxons, the idea is that the children choose at least one task to complete each week from the grid (they can choose more than one if they would like to). Any work/or models that they create as part of their homework can be bought into school for myself and the class to have a look at.

Spellings for Monday12th November – Year 6's Class Blog

The children have also bought home their small spelling log books, they have recorded some spellings in there that they have found tricky this week during our Read, write, inc spelling sessions. I would really encourage the children to practice reading and writing these words into sentences to help them learn the words.

As always, it is really important that the children read as often as they can, we have lots of children who are very close to receiving their bronze reading award on our reading reward chart. They must read 3 times a week at home to earn a tick each week on the chart.

Thankyou,

Miss Taylor
