Design Technology

Over the next couple of weeks, the children will be making their mini Roman chariots.

They have designed their chariots and will be using a range of materials to create them. I will send a copy of their designs home to remind them what they have chosen to use.

Please could you and your child/children do your best to collect the materials they need for their chariots. These could be items such as cereal boxes for the main structure, milk bottle lids for wheels and straws for the wheel axles.ย

It would be fantastic if the children could bring in their materials by next Wednesday (5th Feb). We will have materials/objects available for the children to use but your help would be appreciated.ย

Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Spellings

The 6 high frequency spellings that we are going to focus on this week are describe, want, kind, probably, continue and last.

We are also focussing on the suffix ‘ture’.

This includes words such as- adventure, capture and future. We have also looked at word endings that sound like ‘ture’ but are spelt -cher. For example, teacher and richer.

Please take the time to practice these spellings with your child at home throughout the week.

Thank you for your continued support.

Spellings

Just a little message for parents/carers about Class 3’s spelling activities and homework.

At the beginning of each week, I introduce 6 new high frequency spellings that we read, write and practice. If the children spell any incorrectly, they write them into their spelling log book (this should come home every Friday and come back into school on Monday)

Throughout the week, the children then complete different activities based on a new spelling rule that they are learning – e.g words ending in ‘ing’. The children then choose 5 words from these activities to write in their log books, along with any of the high frequency words that they then need to practice at home.

Thank you for your support with spellings and homework ๐Ÿ™‚

This term Class 3 will be researching, designing and creating a mini Roman chariot. As part of the research, could each child please bring in a toy or object that has wheels (no electronics please) for next Monday (27th).

Thank you.

Cardboard Boxes

Class 3 need cardboard boxes for an activity next term.ย Over Christmas, could your child/children please save a cardboard box each (not huge boxes please) and bring it into school when we come back in January. Any spares will be welcome.

Thank you very much ๐Ÿ™‚ Miss Taylor

Spellings

The 6 high frequency spellings that we are going to focus on this week are decide, who, busy, eight, surprise and remember.

We are also focussing on the prefixes -dis and -in added to the beginning of some words to change their meaning.

This includes words such as like – dislike, appear-disappear, visible-invisible and dependent-independent.

Please take the time to practice these spellings with your child at home throughout the week. You can look at how words change when using and not using the prefixes -dis and -in.

Thank you for your continued support.

Compost bottles

Yesterday the children took home the compost bottles that they have made in class (some still have theirs to do next week). We have been learning about what soil is made of and why it is important.

I have attached the instructions of what to do next to achieve the best compost for planting ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Spelling log books were also sent home, please can these be returned on Monday so that we can complete our spelling activities during the week.

Thanks, Miss Taylor.

Class 3

Just a little message to say thank you for encouraging your children to read as much as they can at home and for helping them create some really interesting homework for our topic.

I have sent home some reading challenge cards for your child/children to use (optional) as they read their book at home. They don’t need to bring in the activities that they do but it is a good way to encourage deeper learning and understanding of the book they are reading.

The children are also bringing home their spelling log books (continuing from Year 2- we are on 2B Unit 10) with words to practice that they have chosen from the activities they’ve completed throughout the week. The log books must be returned to school on Monday. We have been practicing the suffix ‘al’ this week.

Could your child/children please bring in an empty plastic bottle (2 litre if possible) for next Wednesday for a Science activity.ย

Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Class 3

We have had a great first week in Class 3, all of the children have settled in brilliantly and we are looking forward to the rest of this year.

On Friday I sent home reading diaries and have encouraged the children to read at home as much as possible. For each home read, the children get a raffle ticket that is entered into our class prize draw.

I also sent home a homework grid and folder. The homework activities are linked to our topic this term of ‘The Stone Age’. It would be great if the children could complete 1 activity of their choice from the grid each week.

I have attached the Topic plan and a copy of the homework grid. If you have any questions, please let me know ๐Ÿ™‚ Miss Taylor.
