British Science Week – open lesson with parents

It was wonderful to have our parents join us for our science lesson during British Science Week.

We looked at the awe and wonder of magnetic forces and tested whether magnets are stronger when they are hot or cold.
we looked at the Shanghai Maglev train that uses magnetic levitation, eliminating friction to travel at high speeds.

Music lessons- let’s get down with the cornets

We have started learning to play the cornets in Year 3 and 4. We have had our first lesson on how to make a sound on the trumpet and then started to learn the song Hot Cross Buns. We can’t wait to see what we will be able to play by the end of the 10 weeks!

Christmas Fair

This week in Class 5,6 and 7 we have made things for the school Christmas Fair. We had great fun and raised a lot of money for the PTA. We had to design and package, create a budget and then sell our produce at the fair. We even added our allergy information for our customers.

The Big Debate

This week we have been debating whether the Sicily planning department should allow a housing site to be built 3km from Mount Etna. From our public forum on Thursday, the Sicily planning department will respond to letter with their final decision next week. Here are some clips of people sharing their thoughts at the debate.

Volcanoes

This week in Geography we have been looking at volcanos and earthquakes. We worked in groups to create a double paged spread on volcanos. We also learnt the MC Grammar song:

THE FLOOR IS LAVA! 😯 Volcanoes for Kids 🌋 | WONDER RAPS | MC Grammar 🎤 | Kids Songs 🎵

LKS2 Art in the style of Romare Bearden for Black History Month

In LKS2 this week we have been learning about influential people during the civil rights movement. We looked at the art work of Romare Bearden and made mixed media monochromatic collages in a similar style.

We have learnt so much about the struggles of people, and the positive impact that people have when they stand together and unite. We read Benjamin Zephaniah’s poem ‘People need people’ and reflected on the heart warming message that he was spreading.

Stone Age Experience Day

Today we had an absolutely fantastic experience learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. During our sessions Sue taught us: how to use saddle and rotary querns to make flour and butter, use bow and pump drills, make shelters, and wattle a miniature wall.

Kat then showed us the timeline of prehistory, using stratigraphy and artefacts. We handled raw materials and authentic and replica artefacts. Then explored prehistoric sites and features, such as Stone Henge and Woolly Mammoths
using the VR headsets.

We then tried carding, spinning and weaving. We also handled a variety of raw materials for making clothes.

What a busy day!

National Coding Week – Year 3/4

This week is Coding Week, and in Year 3 and 4, we have been exploring what coding is all about! We started by learning the basics of coding, understanding that it’s all about giving a set of clear instructions to achieve a specific outcome. To bring this concept to life, we engaged in some physical coding activities where we followed a series of commands to create different shapes with our bodies. By acting out these instructions, we experienced first-hand how coding works, making the learning fun and interactive while helping us grasp the importance of precise and accurate coding.

Fundraising Group

A big thank you to our Parent Fundraising Group who have allocated £1,000 towards school trips. Each class will have £100 towards an in-school workshop or an educational trip out.

This will allow trips to be subsides for all children.

The fundraising group had their first meeting of the new academic year and have plans for a spooky disco in October and a Christmas fair in December.

The group are always looking for new parents to join and welcome anyone who can volunteer to help run the events.  If you are interested, please let the office know.
