Hi all,

I hope those of you who aren’t able to be in school at the moment feel better soon!

For literacy, could the children please continue to gather facts about their chosen Ancient Egyptian God/Goddess (either Horus, Osiris or Isis) and then complete their non-chronological report. Please can the children bring this in when they are next in school as it is vital that I can assess them in this area of writing! Please include:

  • A title
  • An introductory paragraph
  • 2 subheadings and related paragraphs (examples: powers of the God/Goddess, appearance, family, siblings, creation)
  • A ‘fact-box’ – a small box with some interesting facts
  • Pictures (drawings) of your chosen God/Goddess
  • Writing only in past tense as it is about a historical subject

For maths (year 4), please become more familiar with fractions and equivalent fractions. Count in tenths

Finally, for topic this week we are exploring pyramids – children can view this visual 360 model of a pyramid and then create their own labelling the features!

Hi all,

Please find attached the home learning for the children who unfortunately cannot be in this week.

In science: we are heading forwards with our topic of digestion! At home, could you please familiarise yourself with the different body parts we use in our digestion. I have attached a sheet to complete and there is lots of information on the following link:

Literacy: please gather information for your chronological report. Make sure to gather information on your chosen God/Goddess. Collect this information on a piece of paper to inform your writing when you are able to return 🙂

Science Experiment at Home

Hi all,

Today in science, we performed a fun science experiment using gas! I have sent home with the children and attached to this post the instructions for this super simple experiment for children to try independently. If you want to take some pictures of your child performing the experiment, please feel free as I’d love to see them in action!

This is a very simple experiment, but of course, every experiment has risks so please ensure you are supervising your child during this. Any questions, please let me know 🙂

Reading the Game

On Tuesdays, Class 6 and 7 are lucky enough to have Coach Neil in class to deliver the ‘Reading the Game’ programme.

Half of the session is spent in the classroom developing reading and comprehension skills and the other half is spent outside practicing football skills and playing football games.

We had a very exciting visitor today, Lenny the Lion ! Lenny asked the children to make sure they continue to read at home at least 3 times a week to be in with the chance of one boy and one girl to win a ticket to a Shrewsbury Town game.

Reading at Home

Hello all,

Reading books will now be changed on a Friday. Children should all have access to their reading records now, can guardians please ensure we are reading at home with the children and signing in the records when possible. House points will be awarded for reads on a Friday when books are being changed.

Times Tables

Hi all,

As you are probably aware, children in Year 4 must complete a times-tables check in the summer to ensure they know their times-tables up to 12. We are doing this every day in school, but if your children would like some extra practise at home I have attached some websites and resources that I would personally recommend. It would also be good for Year 3s to get a head start for next year.

Daily 10 is excellent for quick fire questions to improve your child’s mental maths, as well as cognitive processing. The levels are related to their year group, so level 3 would mean year 3 and level 4 for year 4, respectively.

Times-tables memory:

Times-tables memory is good for improving your children’s short term memory with the times-tables. It is also a fun game! This should work on tablets/phones but if you have any issues please let me know.

This is a fun, reactive game to improve their cognitive processing and quick thinking skills relating to the times-tables. Again, this should work on tablets/phones.

For the literacy, the children must use the sentence starters to write arguments defending which season they think is their favourite and then justify that. For example, “I’m absolutely certain that Autumn is the best season because ___________”.
