UKS2 Science Week Lesson

Today, to mark British Science Week – Year 5 and 6 completed an investigation into the impact of increased glacier melting on our polar and ocean eco-systems. We used ice to represent glaciers and rocks/pebbles to represent continents and sea beds. Our variables within the investigation were made up of: different temperatures of water, sugar water and salt water. We investigated the impact of these variables on the melting time of our ice (glaciers). We then discussed the impact on our ocean and polar eco-systems before looking at how we could further this investigation in the future.

Art – Watercolour Painting in UKS2

Today in Upper Keystage 2, we used watercolours to paint realistic portraits of sloths. We used a layering system to our painting, building detail methodically.

Internet Safety in Year 5 and 6

Children in upper Key Stage 2 took part in Internet Safety activities on Tuesday. The students showed impressive understanding of how to protect personal information online, as well as spotting signs of scam. They knew the term ‘phishing’ and were able to identify safe ways to create an online profile, as well as spotting the dangerous ways to present personal information. A fun game using dice was to create a safe password by rolling, and seeing what you get. An example, if you rolled all ones, would be Happypink1dolphin£

The children demonstrated their maturity and impressed throughout.

UKS2 Newsletter – 31.1.25

This week, we have been learning about Air Resistance in Science in UKS2. We have created encyclopaedia page style pieces of work on our understanding of air resistance.

UKS2 Music – 24.01.25

This week in UKS2 for our Music learning – we have looked at the condition Synaesthesia, where people see coloured lights when they hear musical notes or music. We used this knowledge to create synaesthesia artwork for class bespoke songs. We will be listening to each other’s songs and looking at the corresponding artwork next week 🙂

No PLANet B

Eco Posters

This week, in art, Years 5 and 6 have been creating posters to back up messages about climate change they have learnt in previous geography units. We looked at protest poster examples and discussed some important vocabulary involved. Then we built up the skill of collaging before trying our own posters. Some of their slogans and sketches were impressive and two year 6 girls even came up with a chant while they were working:

Stop denying,

The earth is dying,

There is no PLANet B!

One world? Two world?

No…

That’s not reality.
