LKS2 Weekly News

Last week we had another super busy week in LKS2. We had fun testing our measuring skills when measuring the temperature accurately. We looked at time lines in History and the reasons as to why the Anglo Saxons invaded Britain.

Congratulations to Year 4 for winning the battle of the bands on TTRS.

LKS2 Weekly News

This week in class 6,7 & 8 we have been investigating the characteristics of liquids and testing which ketchups are best at staying on the hotdog. We learnt a new word ‘viscosity’ and in class 6 we found that the more expensive ketchups had the higher the viscosity. We had lots of fun finding out and put our observational skills to the test.

We have been designing witches potions and writing pitches for Dragons Den, the jury is still out to decide who will become the Vice Grand High Witch. There were some very creative concoctions.

We have set a TTRS challenge between Years 3 & 4 which will start on Saturday 27th – remember to go on and earn some points for your team.

Next week children will be bringing home a bookmark to support with their home reading, it has information regarding our reading domains and has some sentence stems to support your questioning when listening to your child read.

Have a lovely weekend.

LKS2 News

This week in LKS2 we have really got to grips with our new and exciting topics. We looked at Saxon artefacts and discussed what they could be and what they would have been used for.

In Science we have been looking at what solid, liquid and gas are. We looked at properties of materials and held a debate on what the best material for a roof would be. We had to think about prior learning and scientific vocabulary and make links to what we see around us.

We have thoroughly enjoyed reading the witches and writing character descriptions about them.

Please can I remind you that homework is to read at least 3x a week, practise for spellings and go on TTRS. Thank you in advance for your support.

Stay safe and warm.

Have a lovely weekend

LKS2 News

What a fun filled week we have had in LKS2.

Well done to all the boys and girls in class 6,7 & 8 for demonstrating our school rules whilst walking around the community on Wednesday when we went to the moat in preparation for our new History topic ‘The Saxons’. We had an enjoyable afternoon finding out all about our local area.

Class 6,7 and 8 Weekly News

We have had a busy two days in LKS2, we have been recapping over previous knowledge to help us remember and recall prior learning. We have been discussing our classroom culture and how we want our classroom to feel. We reminded ourselves of our school rules; ready, respectful and safe. We also discussed our school value for the half term – which is ‘positivity’.

Class 7 had the delight of having their first violin lesson.

Next Wednesday we will be walking to the Moat for our History topic, please can children bring some wellies (or footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty) and a waterproof coat.

We look forward to seeing you all next week.

Miss Wade, Mrs Cartwright, Miss Jones and Miss Hodson.

LKS2 weekly update

Another great week full of exciting learning 🙂

In English, we have begun writing about a journey from Shawbury to Birmingham (on foot or bike). We have chosen powerful vocabulary to describe the different checkpoints we would reach on our journey and used this vocabulary to write the first paragraph(s) of our journey. We are looking forward to continuing our writing until we reach our destination.

The Fastest Boy in the World : Laird, Elizabeth, Peter Bailey: Amazon.co.uk: BooksWe are continuing to read the Fastest boy in the world, this week we have been shocked by what we have discovered in the story. The children will be keen to talk about what surprised them and what we now know about Solomon’s grandfather, the ‘arrow’ !

In computing, we have been learning about stop-frame animation. We have learnt what ‘frames’ are and how simple frames can be put together to create a short animation. Some of us have used the app ‘imotion’ to create our own simple animation videos using stop frames. It was great fun seeing our still images come to life. Have a look at a couple of animations that the children created.

Over the last few weeks, Mrs Cartwright, Miss Wade and the choir children have been working so hard to learn and practice a set of songs that they went to perform at St. Chad’s church in Shrewsbury on Tuesday evening. What a wonderful opportunity for the children to have performed in such a beautiful church. Thank you to Mrs Cartwright, Miss Wade, the choir children and their parents and carers for supporting the children and helping the performance go ahead. Well done all ! – pictures to follow when we receive them 🙂

Beechwood Primary School: Homework

We would like the children to continue reading regularly at home, practice their spellings (these are in their log books) and practice regularly on times tables rockstars. We are reminding the children to read 3 or more times a week to / with an adult so that they can earn a tick on our reading rocket charts.

Thank you for the continued support.

Another busy week of learning this week 🙂

The Fastest Boy in the World : Laird, Elizabeth, Peter Bailey: Amazon.co.uk: BooksWe are continuing to read the Fastest boy in the world, we have been discussing and asking ourselves the questions – Why did Solomon’s Grandfather want to visit Piazza?, What happened in the past ? How is Solomon feeling at this point of the story. We are enjoying the book and want to know what happens next.

In our Design Technology topic of ‘Castles’. We have learnt about the features of a castle and the roles and purposes of different castle features. We have just designed the castle model that we will be making. We have used 2d and 3d shape vocabulary to describe our castle design. We will be exploring making 3d shapes using shape nets next week.

In PSHE, we have been learning about how our actions can impact other people’s feelings. We have thought about ways that show we care about other people’s feelings and ways to show empathy towards others. We have talked about what compassion means to us in our Picture News class assemblies. We also considered how rewards and consequences influence behaviour.

LKS2 Weekly update

This week has been assessment week for the children. They have worked so hard to do their best and show off what they have learnt. Well done 🙂

Customised Holographic Well Done Pow Stickers | 35mm

The Fastest Boy in the World : Laird, Elizabeth, Peter Bailey: Amazon.co.uk: BooksIn between assessments, we have been continuing to read and discuss ‘The fastest boy in the world’. We have reached the part in the story where the main character Solomon and his grandfather travel to Piazza to visit family, but when they arrive, the family are unwelcoming and we predict that something has happened in the past to make them so hostile.

Geography – Petersfield Infant SchoolIn our Geography topic of ‘Cities, counties and regions’ we have begun to explore how the United Kingdom is split into these different areas and what their characteristics are. The children completed a double page spread full of facts about counties in England and have created an informative leaflet about visiting a city.

Three Things Most People Don't Grasp about Growth Mindset | Teacher BookerOn Wednesday, KS2 had a ‘Growth mindset’ workshop with Rackeem Reid. Rackeem talked about the importance of developing resilience and ‘I can’ attitudes to build confidence and aid in being successful now and in the future. He also explained the differences between a ‘fixed’ and a ‘growth’ mindset and made links to successful celebrities who show/showed dedication and hardwork in their careers.

Beechwood Primary School: Homework

Along with asking the children to read regularly at home, practice their spellings and practice regularly on times tables rockstars, we have sent home an extra piece of homework this week which is optional but useful for the children. It’s a question sheet based on watching an animation over the weekend. Our new computing topic is animation so this will help the children make links between what they know already and what we will be learning about next.

Please bring any completed animation homework sheets back into school by next Wednesday 🙂

Thank you for the continued support.

LKS2 Weekly update

Apologies for not posting an update last week, I have included the things we have been up to over the last 2 weeks.

Pencil Clipart Images | Free Download | PNG Transparent Background - PngtreeIn writing, we have been learning about D-day, the day that marked the beginning of an operation in World War 2. The children used powerful and emotive vocabulary to write letters as if they were soldiers involved in the D-day landings.

Numbers clipart. Free download transparent .PNG | CreazillaIn Maths, we have begun using our knowledge of place value to add and subtract. We are learning the different methods we can use to add and subtract from given numbers (up to 100/1000). We have talked lots about what an ‘efficient’ method is and why we may choose one method rather than another. We are continuing to practice times tables and encourage the children to continue accessing times tables rock stars at home so that they can develop and apply their knowledge of times tables in all areas of our maths learning.

Biology Stock Illustrations – 710,453 Biology Stock Illustrations, Vectors & Clipart - Dreamstime In Science, we have just started our new topic of sound. We have been  thinking about how children or adults that have hearing difficulties communicate in ways other than speaking and listening and to demonstrate our understanding, we have learnt songs using British sign language which we hope you enjoyed in the Class 8’s assembly.

The Fastest Boy in the World : Laird, Elizabeth, Peter Bailey: Amazon.co.uk: BooksIn whole class reading, we have begun our new book ‘The fastest boy in the world’ written by famous author Elizabeth Laird. We are really enjoying the book so far and are looking forward to what we will find out next about how / if Solomon achieves  his dreams of becoming a running hero in Ethiopia.

Clip-on Poppy | Buy a Poppy | Poppy Shop UKTo mark Remembrance day, we went to church for a remembrance service delivered by the Year 5s. It was such a lovely service and we spent the morning reflecting, remembering and giving thanks to those who served.

We have also been busy with additional learning opportunities over the last two weeks such as an exciting and informative visit for the Year 3s from the Hodnet/Wellington fire department to learn about fire safety. The children (and staff) got to try on a helmet which very heavy and made it difficult to hear, they also practiced the ‘stop, drop and roll’ manoeuvre.

We also had a Picture News assembly that was about British values, we listened to ‘Pop n Olly’ who talked about how everyone should have a voice and be treated equally. We thought about the importance of being ready, respectful and safe in school and how when we follow the school rules, no one is discriminated against.

Thank you for the continued support.
