Class 9 Homework

Class 9 update

Hi,

The weeks seem to be flying by.

Class 9 made a start on their history topic where we looked at criminal terms throughout history.

This Crime and punishment theme is being continued through our Literacy and Reading work, where we are reading High Rise Mystery and dealing with the consequences of a mysterious murder. The children have enjoyed writing a police report linked to this.

It was good to see so many children handing in their homework this week. Pease ask them to check their work as a majority of the class made errors when adding decimals.

Class 9 update

Hi,

Our first week back has been a busy one as the two year groups have now spilt.

Year 5 will work for around 3 weeks with Mrs Duncan while Year 6 will be with Mr Chiverton. The plan is then to swap over for the second half of the half term.

Year 6 have been busy trying their hand a few past Sats papers. We also made a start on our RE work for the half term looking at Salvation on the lead up to Easter.

PE, this half term, will continue to be on Tuesdays with Jujitsu and Crossbar on Wednesdays.

Please remember that children should not be wearing jewellery to school. The only exception to this is ear studs which should be removed or taped for PE.

Please ensure you are reading as frequently a possible.

Homework is due in on Thursdays. If you haven’t been able to complete it or have got stuck then I will be able to help you during Friday lunchtime.

Class 9 Weekly Update

Hi,

Once again, we have had busy week in Class 9. Along with all our usual work, we have also had a visit from the Dog’s Trust and have commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day. The children produced some creative and thought provoking poetry linked to this.

In PSHE we have been working on a St John’s Ambulance created scheme for children’s first aid. This week we concentrated on the initial response and the recovery position.

Our maths continues to focus on fractions and Literacy is developing our story writing skills.

Class 9 update

Hi,

This week the children have been busy across the curriculum.

In maths we have been working on fractions and considering how different fractions are related and how to convert fractions that are different so they can be compared more easily.

In Literacy we are just finishing off our work on diary entries linked to characters in our class text – When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.

In science we have been exploring how differences in voltage can influence how an electrical device operates. Using data loggers we were able to measure the brightness of light bulbs when the voltage was increase.

We have continued our work on the Battle of Britain, and in particular, listening to first hand accounts of the events during the summer of 1940.

In PSHE we will be looking at the NSPCC Speak Out project.

Class 9 Weekly update

Hi,

This week we have been busy continuing our work in Literacy linked to the book, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit. With the link to our history, the children are enjoying this.

In maths we are just about to start a significant block working with fractions. If your child has any difficulty with this area and needs a little help remembering key elements then there are great videos on YouTube.

Our work in Science has lead to us testing a range of electrical circuits to see if they work. The children seem to enjoy the practical elements of this topic.

Class 9 weekly update

Welcome back 🙂

I hope you have all had a lovely break and rest over the Christmas holidays. Class 9 have been great settling back into school and have impressed me with their great behaviour – let’s keep it up!

On Wednesday we started our work looking at the Battle of Britain. In particular we considered the events that lead up to the start of WWII.

In Science this week we revisited the theme of Electricity. The children considered conductive materials whilst creating an electrical circuit and introducing a switch.

Reading

Can I please encourage all children to read at least 3 times a week to an adult. I’m sure you enjoy listening to your child read and it also gives you an opportunity to  check their understanding of the text and question them on their comprehension.

Homework

We have been focusing on the order of operation for completing multistep complex problems. I’m sure if you ask your child about BODMAS/BIDMAS they will be able to explain it.

PE – There is a change to PE this term with Jujitsu on Tuesdays and on a Wednesday PE run by Pass Master. Please can children wear the correct PE uniform, thank you.

Class 9 Weekly update

Hi,

It was lovely to see such a variety of Christmas jumpers on display this week; it certainly brightened up the classroom.

The children have been continuing their work on discussions and arguments in Literacy and have been linking this to their work on Charles Darwin.

In maths we have been looking at factors and multiples of numbers and are about to move on to prime, square and cube numbers.

Their vector graphics work is developing nicely and I hope to have some finished images to show next time.

In RE we have been looking at art and how it is depicted in religion. This week, we were looking at the geometric patterns used in Islamic buildings.

Class 9 Update

Hi,

This week the children have been working hard on a wide range of topics.

In Literacy, we have been looking at discussions and debates and the language used in this genre. We had proposers and opposers in what turned out to be an enjoyable debate.

In maths, we have continued our work on long division. If you want to try a few more at home, then have a go at these:

  1. 7,868 ÷ 14 b) 5,792 ÷ 16

In computing, we have continued to look at vector graphics. Lauren decided to carry on with this at home. Some great images, Lauren.

In art, we have been looking at some of the images that Charles Darwin created whilst on his travels upon HMS Beagle. In particular, we looked at Darwin’s finches. We had some fantastic images from Ivaylo, Rubie and Josh.

Just a reminder that all homework is due in on Thursday morning. If you are having difficulty with it, then please speak to me or Mrs Wills before the end of Tuesday.

Class 9 update

Hi,

It’s been a strange week with so many children affected by sickness.

We have been working on assessments throughout the week and have made a start on discussions within Literacy.

In maths, a few children have found the process involved in short and long division tricky to understand. Can I ask that, if they are still struggling after looking carefully at the example on the homework then to speak to me at the start of the week. A few children are not completing their homework, saying that they can’t find their book or are only informing me of difficulties at the time they are meant to hand it in.

We have been continuing with our work on evolution and natural selection,  and have our art work linked to this. I hope to have some examples on here soon.

In French, the children have been enjoying themselves exploring simple greetings.

As I’m sure you are aware, Class 9 have now had to introduce additional measures with the increase in Covid cases. Please remind your children of the need to sanitise their hands regularly and to avoid touching anyone else’s possessions.

Home learning

Hi,

I understand that a few of you are at home at the moment. Unfortunately, Mrs Wills and I are also away from school.

To help you keep up to date with what’s going on could you please have a look at the following work.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been working on persuasive writing. Our focus has been linked to our work on Darwin’s Dragons and how Syms Covington isn’t happy about the ‘dragons’ being kept in cold, damp zoo. Queen Victoria has shown an interest in the animals.

I would like you to write a persuasive letter as Syms to Queen Victoria with suggestions on what you think should happen to the dragons. Don’t forget to explain why you want these actions to take place.

Please use plenty of persuasive language and use the subjunctive form. Remember to keep it formal as you are writing to the Queen.

Subjunctive-Form

Remember to spend one session planning your work, another creating your first draft, the third session should be edit and improve and the final session should be your final letter.

Maths

In maths we have been looking at long division. Look at the homework page on the last post from Class 9 for an example on how to solve these problems. Some of you will be at different points, so decide where you need to start. Please start with worksheet 1.

In RE we have been looking at how religion is portrayed through art. Please create an image of Jesus as you see him. You may want to look online to see how others have portrayed him.

In Topic we are looking at the weather and climate in the Americas.
