Summer Term Updates

Hi everyone,

Yay, it’s summer term!

Hopefully we will be getting some warm sunny weather so could you please always send the following in with your child each day…

  • sun hat
  • sun cream in bag
  • water bottle

Please make sure these things have your child’s name clearly labelled.

Forest school 

It can get warm at forest school so sun hats are a must. However, for safety reasons every child must have their legs covered so they don’t get scratched, prickled or stung. If your child is wearing shorts or a dress on forest school day, that’s okay, just pop a spare pair of leggings, trousers, tights in their bag for them to change into.

Happy Easter!

Class 1 had a lovely sunny Easter egg hunt this morning as a treat to say thankyou for all their hard work this term. They have been amazing! As always, thank you to all parents and carers for their continued support.

Class 1 Weekly News

Class 1 have had a very busy week!

In literacy our story focus has been Luna loves gardening. The children have worked hard writing instructions on how to plant a seed. Our beans we planted last week have also started to grow!

In maths we have been learning about doubling. The children have been able to problem solve whether or not a number is a double and reasoned why.

On Tuesday we had great fun at boogie bounce! On Thursday the children enjoyed talking about their learning to our parent visitors during the oracy exhibition.

This week your child has come home with some letter formation homework. They will bring home a different sound every Friday. Please encourage them to say the rhyme when writing the sound to help with the correct formation. Also remind them of ‘perfect pencil grip’ and ‘perfect posture’ and they will be able to show you what we do in class.

British Science Week – open lessons with parents

It was wonderful to have our parents join us for our science lesson during British Science Week.

We created our very own creature to live in a chosen habitat. The children shared how a nocturnal animal may have large eyes and if they live in a forest they may be great climbers.

Class 1 Weekly News

Class 1 have had a great week!

In literacy our story focus is ‘Luna loves gardening’. We have planted out own runner beans and used oracy skills to help our partner plant the bean step by step. Now to wait and wait until they start to grow.

In maths we have focussed on the composition of 7. Using tens frames and double dice frame to show 5 and 2, 4 and 3 and 6 and 1 makes 7. The children even showed off their reasoning skills and could explain if an amount was NOT 7.

In forest school we continued with Stanley’s stick, making fishing rods and log dogs.

The children had an amazing science morning, creating their own creatures to live in a chosen habitat. They have brought them home tonight to share with you.

Class 1 Weekly News

This has been very busy and exciting! The children have really enjoyed celebrating World Book Week and loved dressing up as their favourite characters on Thursday. We read the story ‘The wall in the middle of the book’ and the children enjoyed using their imagination to think about what might happen next in the story.

This week our story focus has been Oliver’s Fruit Salad. The children have used their phonic knowledge to write short sentences to describe the characters from the story.

In maths the children have been ordering amounts and writing the numerals to match the amounts. They have been using language such as more than and fewer than to explain their understanding of where the amounts need to be placed.

In forest school this week we read the story ‘Stanley’s Stick’ and the children used their imagination to turn their stick into something else e.g. a walking stick, a fishing rod, a telescope, a hammer or a screw driver.

  • Please return books on a Monday to be changed. Books and reading records need to be in class every day so we can listen to individual readers.

Class 1 Weekly News

Hi everyone

Welcome back to another exciting half term! This half term our topic Food Glorious Food.
This week we have been learning about ways to keep our bodies healthy. We talked about different types of exercise and keeping healthy. We also listened to the story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’, discussed different foods and talked about if they were healthy or not.

In maths we have been learning about the importance of counting – to find out how many objects there are. We have also been ordering numbers, talking about 1 more and 1 less and matching numerals to the amounts.

In literacy our story focus has been ‘Oliver’s Fruit Salad’. The children have enjoyed exploring vocabulary from the story and roleplaying parts of the story.

In forest school we read ‘Leaf man’. The children enjoyed creating their own leaf people and exploring the natural area.

Tuesday – Forest School
Monday – Bring in reading books to be changed. Please also bring books and records in every day so we can comment in your child’s reading record when needed.
