The end of half term!

Wow! This half term seems to have flown by! We have learnt lots of new information, had some very exciting visitors and are enjoying learning outdoors in the sunny weather.

We were very lucky to have a pirate come into school to visit us this week. We had great fun learning some pirate songs and a jig. We found out all about the different Jolly Roger flags that each pirate has. We are still on the lookout for the treasure that is hidden in Shawbury!

This week we practiced two songs that we sung at Church this morning. It was lovely to have all of KS1 in the Church for the Easter Service.

Year 2: We have completed our unit of work on shape this week then practiced lots of reasoning and problem solving questions using words and models of proof.

Literacy: This week we have been writing instructions. Class 4 were super at helping explain to an alien how to make a jam sandwich! We have practiced using imperative verbs and the present tense within our instructions on how to be a pirate.

Homework: I have give the children a homework grid with lots of different ideas to choose from and complete. There is a range of activities for all and hopefully it might also give you a few ideas for things to do over Easter!

Reading: Your child has come home with their next reading book this week. Please read this with your child and fill in their reading record. I look forward to giving out lots of reading certificates after half term!

I hope you have a sunny, enjoyable and safe break.

Weekly news

It has been another super week in Class 4!

Writing: This week we have been looking at letter writing. The children started by identifying features of letters to write a checklist. We then received a letter from Captain Beastly that the children responded to and checked against their checklist. This weeks writing homework is to write a letter. It would be lovely if some of these were posted to friends and family and it would be great to see any replies received!

Maths: Year 1 have been revisiting and consolidating all of the super work that they have done this term. We have looked at addition and subtraction, place value, length and height and volume and capacity. The children have been really impressed with how they are finding some areas they struggled with really easy now!

Year 2: This week we have been looking at lines of symmetry and pattern making. We have been cutting out shapes and folding them to see if they have lines of symmetry. The children have enjoyed collecting shapes to make repeating patterns.

PSHE: On Monday we discussed the ways in which we were wasting energy at home or in school. We all then made a pledges with different ways we could address these issues. We will check in next week to see how we have all got on!

RE: Following on from all of our work this half term on the Easter Story this week we identified and wrote down some of the instructions that Jesus gave us for how to behave.

Thank you to all the children (and adults!) who have been brining their books in every day. It is amazing to see the improvement in fluency and understanding from Monday to Friday.

Homework: The children have come home with a maths sheet and the writing task mentioned earlier. Please support your child to complete these and return them by Thursday please.

Have a lovely weekend

Weekly message

We have had a great week in Class 4!

English: We have been exploring pirate themed poetry this week. We have used our sense to write a descriptive poem then used our phonics knowledge to create tongue twisters!

Maths: Year 1 have been finishing off their topic of capacity and volume. We have had a lot of fun practically exploring the capacities of different containers and ordering them from empty to full.

Year 2: Continuing on our theme of shapes the children have been counting and comparing the number of vertices and edges 2D and 3D shapes have. We have also been looking at repeating patterns and created some of our own using the maths shapes.

History: This week the children have been comparing the differences between the 16th century, when Grace O’Malley was alive and the 21st century. We found it very interesting that they cooked using fire instead of ovens and they wore very different clothes!

Homework: Class 4 have been sent home with spellings, writing and maths activities that link to and consolidate the learning we have undertaken in class. Please support your child to complete this ready to be returned on Thursday.

Reading: Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and reading record into school every day. The children may read to an adult at any point in the week and the children read every morning as part of our ‘DEAR’ (drop everything and read) time. Thank you for your support with this.

I hope you have a restful weekend.

Weekly News!

Well done to all of Class 4 for working so hard this week on their assessments! It has been lovely to see all of the progress that the children have made this year.

Science: As part of our science topic and British Science Week the children built a habitat for a penguin in forest school. The children researched penguins habitats and worked in groups to try and recreate this.

PSHE: This week we have been focusing on financial needs and wants. We had a super debate where the children have to try and persuade and justify why their item should be a need or a want.

The children have spelling homework in their homework files. As we have been doing assessments I have not set maths and writing homework. Please could children practice their times tables using times tables rock stars. It would be great to see the activities that the children have completed as part of British Science week. These resources have been shared on the school website.

Please ensure that your child brings in their reading book every day as we are having ‘DEAR’ (drop everything and read) time every morning.

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly message.

What a fabulous start to the new half term! This week started off with a knowledge day so we could explore all about our new topic ‘Pirates’. The children enjoyed finding out about Grace O’Malley the pirate, looking at pirate outfits and making pirate ships.

Literacy: Our current book is “The Night Pirate” written by Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright. After reading the book we used a story map to role play and act out the story in groups. We have created a wanted poster for the main character to practice out character descriptions. We did some ‘hot seating’ putting ourselves in the shoes of Tom the main character and then wrote a diary entry from Tom’s point of view.

Maths: Year 1: We have continued to work look at length and height of different objects and how we can compare these objects when using non standard measurements. Later this week we moved onto looking at weight and mass of objects. We have been using balance scales to visually see which item is heavier.

Year 2: We have been looking at tally charts, block diagrams and pictograms. The children have been making their own pictograms and block diagrams to show the number of certain objects in our classroom.

Science: This week we have started our new topic habitats. We have been thinking about the forest school habitat and what makes that a perfect home for the animals and plants that live there.

It was lovely to see all of the children dressed up yesterday. I enjoyed hearing the children talk about their favourite books, characters and stories.

Homework has been sent home today, please can this be returned next Thursday.

Reading books will be going home on Monday and these should be returned each Friday.

Forest school and PE days will remain the same as last half term.

Wednesday PE kit.

Thursday – wellies.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Miss Wright.

End of a half term

Wow! It’s the end of the half term already! I am so proud of class 4 for the progress that they have made this half term. It is amazing to see budding historians, scientists, writer, mathematicians, athletes are more emerging.

Literacy: This week the children have written their own rhyming poems to describe the conditions in the hospitals during the Crimean war. We first looked at other poems for inspiration then explored rhyming words. The finished poems are fabulous, see if your child can remember some of theirs to tell you.

Maths: Year 1 have been focusing on length and height. We have been comparing objects visually then using cubes or rules to numerically compare the objects.

Year 2 are learning statistics skills. The focus this week has been tally charts and pictograms. We have been developing and using different keys and explaining why they are best for the pictogram that the children have drawn.

Science: This weeks science lesson finishes off this terms learning about the microhabitats in our school. The children drew the habitat forest school and identified all of the microhabitats within. We then discussed the types of animals that would live in each microhabitat.

Reading books: Your children have been reassessed to determine which colour reading books they will be bringing home next half term. For half term all children have been encouraged to bring home a sharing book from our book corner. Please continue to read your child’s reading book with them this week as reading the book 3 or more time increases your child’s fluency and understanding.

Homework: Your child has brought home maths, literacy and spelling homework to be completed. Please access this work with your child and give support where needed. A polite reminder that homework should be completed in pencil. Well done to all of the children that brought their homework in each week on time they received a certificate yesterday!

I hope you have a lovely half term!
