Worrying about money?

The independent Food Aid Network has produced a leaflet that clearly lays out the support schemes and help available for people struggling with financial hardship. Free hard copies of this leaflet are available from Sophie@shrewsburyfoodhub.org.uk

Walk to School Poster Competition

We would like the children to design their very own poster to support ‘Walk to School Week’ starting on the 16th May.  On Friday, the Student Council and Safeguarding Board will announce the winning poster.

Please can all entries be in school by Friday 13th May.

See below for examples from previous years.

Free School Transport for Secondary School

Any parents/carers of year 6 pupils, who wish to apply for free school transport for their child/ children from September 2022, should do so before 31st May 2022.

Applications can be made online at https://shropshire.gov.uk/school-transport/or over the phone with the Council’s Customer Service Team by calling 0345 6789008

Alternatively, should you require a paper copy of the application form, please do not hesitate to contact the school or Passenger Transport directly via email, or over the phone on the above telephone number. It is important to explain that, if the application is not received by 31st May 2022, the Authority may be unable to provide transport for the beginning of the autumn term 2022 and parents/ carers will need to make their own transport arrangements. Access to school transport is not permitted until entitlement has been confirmed.

Head’s Update

This week, it has been wonderful to celebrate the achievements of Mrs Kelly Leonard (parent and Chair of Governors) who competed in the Invictus Games, in The Hague, The Netherlands.  It was lovely to see her in her GB tracksuit and showing her medals and photographs to the children. The children listened intently to Mrs Leonard talking about her journey to the Invictus Games and asked some really good questions.  See separate post for photographs.

Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the focus this year is on loneliness.  In school, we will be raising an awareness of the impact of loneliness on our own and others mental wellbeing.  It will be an opportunity for our school community to focus on achieving good mental health within our families, friends and neighbours. The Foundation found that loneliness has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Further information can be found at:  https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/our-work/prevention

Join us for the five-day walking challenge starting 16th May.  Thousands of children across the UK will take to their feet and walk to school.  The campaign aims to encourage all parents, children and young people to make walking to school part of their daily routine.  This year’s challenge, #PowerUp, will engage pupils on how being active helps improve their health, happiness and local environment.  What out for the poster competition with great prizes.

A message for our Year 6 children,

Next week, you will be sitting your SATs tests so please make sure you complete this very important homework:

  • Watch a funny film and laugh until your face hurts
  • Go for a walk with people who care about you
  • Phone or FaceTime someone you haven’t seen in a while
  • Get lots of sleep
  • Play games with your family or friends
  • Eat lots of your favourite food

SATS are important and we all want you to do your best, but they don’t measure how good you are at sport, art, music, being a good friend or how kind you are.  We are all proud of the person you are and the results of a few tests will never change that.

You’ve worked so hard this year so keep reminding yourself that YOU’VE GOT THIS!  I am very proud of everyone.

Have an amazing weekend everyone!
