Last Week before Christmas Holidays

Next week in Squirrels class we will be having a ‘finishing off’ week, to complete units of work in History and Science. The children will also be doing lots of Christmas crafts, Christmas card making and Christmas colouring.

Thursday (19.12.19) morning we have the Christmas Church Service and then I’d like to throw a small Christmas party for Squirrels class. If you’d like to donate some party food (biscuits, crisps, etc) this would be greatly appreciated. Should you wish to donate any food, please could this be handed in before or on Wednesday.

Friday (20.12.19 – last day!) the children are welcome to bring in their favourite toy from home to share with their friends in class. No electronics please! Their toy will need to be clearly labelled with their name and the children are responsible for their own belongings. We will be watching a Christmas film to end the term on Friday afternoon – any donations of popcorn are most welcome!

Kind regards,

Homework and Nativity

Homework: Apologies for this not going out on Friday! The children are to find lines of symmetry in 2D shapes. This is due in on Friday 6th but can be given in Monday 9th due to being given out late.

Nativity: Please could we have all costumes for the nativity given in by Wednesday this week, in a carrier bag with your child’s name on it. We will be doing a dress rehearsal at the end of the week! Any problems, please do not hesitate in coming to see me.

Kind regards

Phonics WC 25.11.19

Common exception/high frequency words (these are tricky words that they cannot sound out to support spelling). Please take some time to review them with the children at home so they become familiar with reading and spelling these.

Year 2: Year 1 common exception words + told, fast, father

The sounds we will be focusing on/revisiting this week are ure, oo and qu.

Words that the children may want to practise spelling at home are:

ure – sure, pure, cure, secure

oo – look, good, book, cook, wool, took, hood

qu – quiz, quit, quick, quack, quid

The children will not be tested on these but additional practise at home will help them with phonics work in class.

Thank you for your support!

Homework – Friday 22nd November

Homework this week is writing in Home Diaries (please hand in on Monday) and reading to a grown up. Children who have been given a line to say in the Nativity this year should spend a few minutes practising these over the weekend as rehearsals start next week.

Thank you for the Maths homework that has been handed in today, please hand in on Monday if it hasn’t been given in today.

Have a lovely weekend!

Christmas Counts Nativity

The children were given their costume letters yesterday for this years KS1 Nativity ‘Christmas Counts’. Please check bags as these detail what the children will be in the play and the costumes needed.

Today we have given out the lines that children need to learn if their character in the Nativity has a speaking part. You will find these in their reading records! Please allow a couple of minutes a night to read through these and memorise. I have given the whole page the lines fall on so the children can see who they speak after/before to help with prompting.

Thank you for your support!

Homework and reading

We have been learning about addition and subtraction in class and the children’s homework is linked to this.

Forest School

Just a quick message to say Forest School will not run this term to allow the site to recover from lots of sessions visiting and bad weather.

Paper Weaving

Today the children were introduced to paper weaving. The children picked this up brilliantly and chose some lovely autumnal colours for their weaving. Some children have had their work displayed on our Work to ‘bee’ proud of display outside Squirrels class. this will be changed regularly to showcase everyone’s brilliant work throughout the year.
