LKS2 weekly update

As you are probably already aware, the children have come home today with their end of year reports and their times tables check results. Inside their report envelopes are also the letters to tell you/them what class they will be in next year.

We hope you are pleased with your child/children’s reports, we are so pleased with their attitudes and progress made. Well done all 🙂

This week we have delivered the relationships and sex education programme to the children. They were all SO mature and respectful. The boys and girls were taught separately for the final two lessons so that any questions that may arise (of which there were lots) could be suited to a particular gender at that particular time.  We hope that the children’s questions have been answered during the lessons but if there is anything else they would like to ask/think of, we have question boxes in our classroom that they can use.

Here is our Summer 2 topic overview to share what we have been and will be learning about over the next few weeks. – Half-term overview Latitude and Longitude

Just a polite reminder that children should be coming into school on non-PE days in the correct school uniform. There have been a few incidents this week of children coming to school in their own shorts/trainers when we haven’t had PE.

Another week has flown by!

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Cartwright, Miss Wade, Miss Taylor and Mrs Taylor

Sports day reminder.

On Monday, we will be doing a practice run of ‘Sports day’. The children will need to come to school in their PE kits on Monday for the practice,  as well as Tuesday for sports day.

The children will also need a water bottle and to bring/wear a sunhat and sun cream to school if it looks like it will be another hot day.

Thank you 🙂

Collage materials

Over the next few weeks, Class 6, 7 and 8 will be creating collages and we would really appreciate it if anyone was able to donate/bring in any magazines and or patterned paper that would be suitable to collage with.

If anyone has anything that would be suitable then please can the children bring it into school with them over this week.

LKS2 Weekly update

Welcome back after half term !

We had such a nice start to the week on our trip to Chetwynd deer park. We spent the whole day doing lots of different activities such as mindfulness exercises, photography using the iPads, exploring the park (and rolling down hills), nature scavenger hunts, natural object portraits, sketching in our sketchbooks and lots of time spent enjoying being outdoors.
All of the children were so well behaved and we had a great time.
On Thursday, the Year 4s were lucky enough to go on their second trip of the week to Lichfield Cathedral, Mrs Cartwright said they had a brilliant time 🙂 (pictures to follow).

This morning the children made their mini pizzas, they have topped them using fresh, seasonal salad and vegetables (some have used quite a lot of toppings) and are ready to be cooked at home. I have mentioned to the children that they could add some meat toppings to the pizzas at home if they wanted to.

Thank you for your continued support.

Pizza making

To finish our Design technology topic from last half term, this Friday Class 6, 7 and 8 will be making pizzas that they have designed themselves.

Due to the number of children that will be making pizzas at the same time, unfortunately we won’t have enough oven space to cook them at school so each child will be bringing their uncooked pizza home with them to cook and enjoy. The cooking instructions will be sent home with each child too.

We will be providing the ingredients required to make the pizzas, including some seasonal toppings based on the children’s recipe designs.

Please can each child bring in a Tupperware style box/container on Friday to put their pizzas in to bring home. They will not be full size pizzas, we are aiming for the size of a side plate or a little smaller.

We have also begun the evaluation process of our pizzas. Please encourage children to use their senses when cooking and tasting their pizza so that they are able to record their final rating out of 5 for the taste of their pizza when they return to school on Monday.

Thank you very much 🙂

Miss Taylor, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Cartwright and Miss Wade.

LKS2 weekly update

Another week has flown by!

This week we have planned and planted seeds for our Science investigation, we are exploring what plants need and observing what happens if we remove one of these needs. We look forward to seeing the progress (or lack of) of our sunflowers, we have already spotted some activity with some of the seeds!

Earlier in the week, we had a visit from two police community support officers who delivered an assembly to KS2 about the dangers of knives and the safety rules surrounding the misuse of everyday objects. There were lots of opportunities for the children to ask questions so they learnt so much about career options in the police force, police roles and responsibilities and potential consequences for breaking the law. It was a very interesting assembly!

We have also just begun our new whole class reading book, Journey to Jo’burg by Beverley Naidoo, we are very excited to get stuck into the story.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Taylor, Mrs Cartwright and Miss Wade.

LKS2 Weekly update

Welcome back 🙂

What a fun filled first week of the summer term we’ve had !

We have introduced our new value of the half term which is Empowerment, we will be thinking more about what this means and looks like in school over the next few weeks.

We were lucky enough to have a visit from Keith and David from the Key strings music education group, they delivered an assembly to the whole of KS2 and it was brilliant! A few children got to have a go at using some of the instruments.

We have also started a new topic in Design technology that will take us on a ‘journey around the world’ learning about different foods, climates and recipes. To start this unit, we made Japanese fruit skewers that were very tasty.

Thank you for a great first week back.

Miss Taylor, Miss Wade and Mrs Cartwright.

LKS2 Week 6

Good afternoon all,

We’re nearing the end of a fantastic term and the teachers in LKS2 would like to thank you for your ongoing support throughout this term – we have had a lot going on and we couldn’t have done it without you!

This week, being the super scientists we are, we made our own board games using magnets! We made a mixture of fishing games, racing games and maze games using cardboard, magnets and a variety of other materials we could find in the classroom. The children were super savvy and creative with their designs and it was a fantastic end to our topic of Forces and Magnets.

In maths, we have been moving forward this week with our multiplication and division. The year 4s are preparing everyday for the upcoming times-table test!  We have also been fantastic historians this week and researched Danelaw. The children have worked so hard and are almost due for a well deserved rest!

Thank you,

Miss Parker, Mrs Cartwright and Miss Wade

Weekly update – LKS2

Wow, what an exciting first week back!

We have lots of new routines and regulations at St. Marys and the children have been absolutely outstanding with our new Relentless Routines. They have worked so hard this week and their behaviour has been amazing, we couldn’t be more proud of the children of St. Marys.

We started our week by learning in-depth about our inner chimps; we even named them! Our inner chimp is the emotional team within our brain that thinks and acts for us without our permission. We learned to manage our chimps using our rational brains and learned it is important to work with our chimp, not against as our chimp is just trying to protect us.

To end off our brilliant week, we spent our Friday investigating and examining owl pellets! We were excellent scientists today and used our working scientifically skills to predict, experiment, gather data and conclude our investigation on the diets of owls to finish off our topic ‘Animals Including Humans’. We found lots of interesting things in the pellets including animal bones, skulls and small insects. Don’t worry, we washed our hands multiple times!

The PE days are as following:

Class 8 – Tuesday, Wednesday

Class 7 – Tuesday, Wednesday

Class 6 – Tuesday, Thursday

Cool Kids – Monday (only applicable if your child is in Cool Kids)

I hope you have a lovely, restful weekend ahead after an exciting first week back!

Best wishes,

Miss Parker, Mrs Cartwright and Miss Wade
