Class 9 Weekly News

Class 9 have had a fantastic week this week! Well done to all of them for being absolutely amazing on Sports Day, your behaviour was brilliant and you all pushed yourself to try your absolute best in every race.

This week has been assessment week and everyone has worked extremely hard to concentrate and achieve high scores. I am very proud of everything they achieved and they have proven just how much they have learnt over the year. Well done Class 9, I am so proud of each and every one of you.

In school this week each key stage was given a religion to focus on for Inter Faith Week. Class 9 learnt about Buddhism and created their own Wheel of Life, creating new realms and symbols. They also learnt how Buddhists write prayers on flags and hang them outside temples, believing that each time the wind blows the flag, the prayer is repeated. Class 9 then wrote their own prayers and we hung them up in the classroom.

Next week, Class 9 are going to look at food trade in Geography. They will identify countries where our food is imported from, so any food packaging would be grateful appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Class 9 Weekly News

Class 9 have had another brilliant week. They have coped so well in the heat and continued to work extremely hard. In Maths, Class 9 have been developing their skills by learning how to measure angles using a protractor. To begin the week they classified acute, obtuse and reflex angles. After this, they used their knowledge of degrees of turn to find missing angles around a point.

In Literacy, Class 9 have been writing sections of their journey stories. This week they changed the setting the refugees had to travel across to the high mountains. As a class, we changed the setting to the ocean. Class 9 produced some excellent writing of the new setting, using ambitious vocabulary and taught grammatical skills from the previous weeks. Next week, they will be writing their final version of the story.

In Geography, Class 9 started their new topic. The new topic for this half term is called Global Trading. This week they were introduced to what trade is, how trade has become global and created group timelines showing the changes in trade from The Stone Age to the 17th Century, to the 21st Century.

Lastly, well done to all the children who took part in the swimming gala today, you all did amazingly.

Please remember to send your child in on Monday in their PE kit for sports day practice. Tuesday 20th June is sports day, so children need to be in their PE kits again.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Class 9 Weekly News

Class 9 have had an excellent first week back. They have been fantastic at getting straight back into following the school rules and values. This half terms value is ambition. On Monday’s assembly the children were asked about their ambitions for this half term, the next year and their future. Please talk about ambition with your children at home and encourage them to think about their life long ambitions.

In Literacy, Class 9 have continued exploring the story The Journey. They have focused on using different pronouns in their writing and using outside/inside thoughts to develop character descriptions. In Maths, Class 9 have finished statistics and are now focusing on shape. This has included looking at degrees and identifying the degree of different turns. You could use this knowledge at home when telling the time. For example, how many degrees has the clock hand turned since 11am. This is a great way to embed their knowledge as well practising telling the time.

In Geography, Class 9 finished their Settlement and Migration topic. They ended the unit by focusing on refugees. They identified countries were refugees were highest, locating these countries on a map and researched the current events in Sudan, where thousands of refugees are fleeing the violence in Sudan.

This week Class 9 also spent Thursday at Thomas Adams Secondary School. I heard wonderful things about their day and hope that eased their worries about going to secondary school in the future.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Class 9 Weekly News

I want to start by saying how proud I am of Class 9. They have worked extremely hard this half term across all their subjects. They have cope extremely well with the hot weather we are having and carried on working to the best of their ability.

In Literacy, Class 9 have starting reading a new story called The Journey by Francesca Sanna. The story tells the tale of a refugee family who have to flee their country because of the war. Class 9 have been exploring the book through hot seating and creating word banks of vocabulary to use in their own writing.

In Maths , Class 9 have started their statistics unit where they have been learning to read, draw and interpret data displayed on line graphs and tables. In Science, Class 9 finished their forces unit of work by making their own simple machines. They used resources to make a catapult, thinking about the forces that might act upon it and effect the distance a object could travel from the catapult. The class enjoyed sitting in the sunshine and testing which catapult produced the most force and flung the paper missile the furthest. Well done to Tom, whose catapult won.

Lastly. thank you to all the parents who attended the reading workshop today. It was lovely for you to see a taster of a reading session and support your child.

I hope you have a wonderful half term holiday. See you on Monday 5th June for the final half term of the year.

Class 9 Weekly Post

Class have had another fantastic week. They have worked extremely hard in Literacy writing their final version of their Walter Tull biographies. I am so impressed with their handwriting, vocabulary and pride they have put into their work. Also, Class 9 have worked really hard during maths this week calculating the perimeter and area of rectilinear and compound shapes.

In Geography, Class 9 have been researching their own world migration that has shaped the world we live in today. They used information sheets and the internet to research a migration of their choice and produced a fact file. Their fact file needed to include where the migration was, who migrated, when it took place and the push and pull factors that led to the migration.

In Computing this week, Class 9 have been using Scratch to create programmes. This week they focused on variables. They used scratch to create a programme that made the variable change by an amount. They worked really well and produced a range of programmes. Scratch is a free website that children can assess at home if they wish to keep practising their skills.

Please remember to make sure your child is reading at least three times a week and their reading record is in school everyday. If your child has lost their reading record, make sure they come and collect a new one from me.

Have a lovely weekend!

Class 9 Weekly Post

Class 9 have had an brilliant week back and have been producing excellent work. On Thursday morning, Class 9 conducted Geography fieldwork in the village. They worked in groups to find out Why people live in Shropshire? They had to ask the people of Shawbury their fieldwork question and use a tally chart to record their findings. After conducting their fieldwork, they presented their findings using bar charts and analysed what they found out by writing a summary of results. I was so proud of how Class 9 represented St Marys while walking around the village, they were polite to every person they spoke to and the Co-op staff were so impressed with them, they gave the whole class a free bottle of water each.

In Literacy, Class 9 have started to learn about biography writing. They have been using Walter Tull’s Scrapbook to learn about who he was and what he achieved during his lifetime. They used drama to freeze frame significant events that happened during his childhood, football career and time as a soldier during the war. Also, they identified features of biographies, so they have a toolkit for writing their own Walter Tull biography.

Please remember every child needs to bring their reading book and reading record into school every day and your child should be reading three times a week. Don’t forget to record each read in their reading record and sign it.

PE sessions are still every Tuesday and Thursday.

Well done Class 9 for a brilliant week!

Have a fabulous weekend.
