Weekly update

Hello Nursery

Well what a lovely last week before we have our half term break.

This week we have been looking at our focus story of the week ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ and comparing the story to our class room caterpillars which have now attached to the lid of the cup and become chrysalides.

The children have loved listening to and acting out the story, they have made a Hungry Caterpillar of their own using their handprints, they really enjoyed feeding the hungry caterpillar using their gross motor skills trying to get the food into the caterpillars mouth, they have also trusted their senses in a game of GUESS WHATS IN THE BOX? where the children had to focus on their sense of touch to work out what food from the story was in the box. Finally they all had a super last day with the jubilee celebrations organised by the parent fundraising group.

In PE this week the children listened really well to Harry and his team and they also enjoyed their last country dancing session in Diddi-dance as next term they will be learning salsa!

In Maths this week the children have been fingerprint caterpillar counting, sorting objects and creating symmetrical butterflies.

In phonics this week we have been looking at the sound ‘x’ and introducing some special friend sounds ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ while also having ago at blending some simple words in Fred talk like, m-a-d, s-i-t, c-a-t and s-a-d. Amazing work everyone!

Please enjoy some pictures from this week and enjoy your half term break!

Many Thanks,

Helicopter visit

Hello Nursery,

Well what a welcome back to another working week. A super visit from RAF Shawbury!

The Nursery children absolutely loved the Helicopter landing in the school field today and we were the first class to sit in it

You should be very proud of your children they asked super questions and some children even knew what the blades were called without even being told, which was amazing as I thought they were called propellers! WOOPS silly me.

Please enjoy a few pictures, I’m sorry there isn’t more but we were too busy being helicopter investigators.

Many Thanks,

Your Nursery team x

Weekly update

Hello Nursery,

This week the children have all enjoyed our muddy puddle morning out in the garden, playing in the mud kitchen and mini beast hunting. They learnt all about the life cycle of tadpoles and created a frog pond in the water tray.

In science this week our investigation was Ice! the children had to work out different methods of releasing the bugs that were trapped in the ice blocks, we focused on words like solid/liquid, cold/slippery, melting/wet, crystals/water, We looked at ways to melt the ice using different methods, the children each suggested an idea these were: different tools, heat from our hands, warm water and salt. In turn the children tried each method and they all came to the same conclusion at the end that warm water worked the best closely followed by the tools, salt was the slowest to work.

In literacy our story of the week was ‘Spinderella’ and in art we looked at the artist ‘Matisse’ and his early work ‘snail art’ they all then had a go at recreating the picture for our class display.

Please also enjoy some pictures of our nursery caterpillars, the children have been observing them over the last two weeks and they have grown considerably, we will keep you updated on their progress, very exciting!

Please enjoy some pictures from the week,

Many thanks,

‘Continence and Enuresis’ information for Nursery and Reception age children

A Message from Shropshire Community Health
“Hello
We know that some children can struggle with getting dry at night and in the day, and that constipation can be quite common for young people.  This can make starting nursery and school a challenging time for some children and their parents/carers.
Please find attached some leaflets regarding this for your new cohort of nursery and reception aged children, which I hope they will find useful.  The nursery leaflet attached is called ‘ Thinking about wee and poo now you’ve reached the age of 2’ and the Reception leaflet is called ‘Thinking about wee and poo now you’re on the way to school’
We would be very grateful if you could support us in sending these out when contacting the parents of your new intake of pupils.  Please also feel free to send out to current nursery and reception children if you feel this would be useful!
If you have any enquiries from parents/carers regarding toileting then please ask them to contact our single point of access (SPOA) line on 0333 358 3328.  Our School Nurse Team are available to offer initial advice and support to parents, as well as make referrals to the Continence Nurse for Paediatrics Team if further help is required.”

Hello Nursery,

Well what a super week! The children thoroughly enjoyed having a minibeast for a sleepover and I wanted to thank all the parents who helped find a fun fact about their house guest for the evening, All the children presented their fact to their friends really well and we all learnt lots of new facts about different minibeasts.

This week we also looked closely at ladybirds, The children enjoyed using the ladybird cards to link numeral and amount, they also practiced fast recognition of objects up to 5 and number writing. They made ladybirds out of plates and toilet rolls to take home counting the number of spots on their backs, and in science they made playdough following a recipe card. They also looked  at the changes of powder and liquid substances mixed together and how it changed into a malleable solid.

This was also our first week of DIDDI DANCE which was fantastic, the children listened and joined in so well, we can’t wait for next week!

Please enjoy some pictures from this week.

Many Thanks,

Hello Nursery,

What an exciting week we have had! The children have all been looking at and investigating minibeasts.

In literacy this week we have been reading stories all about minibeasts like ‘Norman The Slug With The Silly Shell’, ‘Superworm’, ‘The very Greedy Bee’ and ‘The Bad Tempered Ladybird’. If you have any stories at home all about minibeasts please share them at bedtime with your child.

For activities this week the children have made their own bumblebees and beehives they have made bug houses for the nursery garden and they have also been on a nature walk where they were looking for woodlouse, worms and spiders and in movement time they all moved like different minibeasts, which was a lot of fun..

In maths they have looked at the hexagon shape making beehives, they are learning how to subitise objects up to 5. and they have been busy counting how many bugs are in the jar.

On Monday afternoon next week we have our first session of DIDDI DANCE, I know all the children are super excited, I am too! so please can all children that attend on Monday  please bring trainers to wear in the hall.

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know how fantastic the first PE lesson went today and I thankyou all for remembering to come in the correct school PE kit of white t-shirt, black bottoms, purple jumper and plain coloured trainers. The children were all really proud to be wearing them today and we are all looking forward to another PE session tomorrow.

Also; please can we remember to only put water in the drinks bottles as we are a healthy school. Fruit juices can be placed in the packed lunch if required.

Here are some pictures.
