Friday 26th Feb – Home learning

Good morning 🙂

Happy Friday! How are you all today? Have you enjoyed the first week of term? I cannot wait to see you all.

Do you like the new topics we are looking at? You have all been super engaged and worked really hard, I am still so impressed with the level of work coming from all of you.

Phonics

Take the sounds you have learnt this week and write a sentence for each sound, without using any help. See if you can remember all of the sounds and spell them perfectly.

  • /ew/ – chew the stew
  • /oa/ – goat in a boat
  • /ire/ – fire fire!
  • /ear/ – hear with your ear.

Have a go, check it and then fix it if you need too.

Handwriting

Today the focus is letter printing!

Handwriting print letters

Printing letters – extension

Spellings

Please complete the spelling sheet, these can be done over the weekend as homework if you would prefer.

Spelling sheet 26.2.21

Maths – Arithmetic Quiz

Please complete the test below independently. Once you have had a go, ask an adult to look it over with you and check the answers. Tick it or fix it with a different colour pencil and then let me know what you get! Good luck!

Spring Test 2

PSHE – How to keep safe at home (fire safety)

As part of our new PSHE topic, we need to look at how to keep safe at home in the event of a fire. Please read through the PowerPoint below. Before you start, do you know any fire safety already?

Fire Safety PowerPoint

After you have looked through the slides. On a plain piece of paper, I would like you to create a poster all about fire safety at home. Make it as bright as bold as possible!

Golden time

We will be having some golden time this afternoon to allow us to relax after a busy first week. I hope you can enjoy some relaxation time too.

Have a really lovely weekend 🙂

Best wishes, Miss Shadbolt.

Tuesday 26th January – Home Learning

Good morning Ladybirds!

Lots of fabulous work again yesterday!! I am so impressed with you all :).

I hope you all got chance to go out and enjoy the snow!!

Phonics – oi

Today the new sound is /oi/ ‘spoil the boy’

Have a go at the video and then have a look at the phoneme spotter sheet!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Pvvr1KY9ZB8

oi phoneme spotter

Literacy – Flotsam

I really enjoyed looking at all of your spider diagrams yesterday. You have really sparked some imagination with this story!

Today the task is to create a story map to be used as a plan for your story. Draw pictures to map out the story, linking them with arrows to show the direction of the map. Once you have drawn all the pictures go back and add some key words and short sentences to your plan. This will be vital to help you with tomorrow’s lesson. Use the spider diagram from yesterday to help you with your ideas.

Watch the video again and then used it to help you plan the story. There is a blank story map example attached if you need it.

Maths – Division

I am really sorry for the mix up with the Maths yesterday, please see attached the correct work for Tuesday. We are moving on to grouping today.

If you cannot print the worksheets, please just use a pen and paper.

Science – The difference between raw and synthetic materials.

I know we would normally do RE on a Tuesday, however we are having a special RE focus this week that we need more time for in class, so we are moving to Thursday and to make sure we are all doing the same I am swapping it around for us all.

Today you are looking at the difference between raw and synthetic materials. We touched on this in class before Christmas, however we called them natural or man made materials – but it means the same thing!

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/what-is-the-difference-between-raw-and-synthetic-materials-6ctkac

If you do not want to the task set from the video, there is a sheet below which I have included. The task with this sheet is to walk around your house and list all of the raw and synthetic materials you can find 🙂

Science – Man Made V Natural

Have a lovely day!

Keep smiling 🙂

Miss Shadbolt.

Friday 15th Homework

Happy Friday everyone 🙂

Due to the children being unable to swap and change their reading books due to the current circumstances. I am going to be setting a reading comprehension task as the homework each week. The text will just be short and then the children will have to answer a few questions about the piece of text they have read.

The activity is differentiated dependent on the reading level of your child. To check your child’s reading level, have a look at their book bag book and see what colour it is.

If you children brings home blue books, this is the activity.

Blue Group Reading Homework

If your child brings home pink or purple, this is the activity:

Pink and Purple Group Reading Homework

If your child brings home red books, this is the activity.

Red Group Reading Homework

If your child has been in school today; they will also need to complete the spelling sheet.

Spellings 15.01.21

All homework is too be emailed or handed in on Thursday 21st January. If your child will be in school that day they can hand it in too me, if not please email ladybirds@shawburystmarys.co.uk.

Thank you so much!

Happy reading 🙂

Miss Shadbolt.

Friday 11th December Home Learning

Happy Friday Ladybirds (parents and carers too)!

I just want to say thank you for working super hard all week with your home learning. I have really enjoyed looking through the emails and pictures of all the work you have produced and the exciting festive activities that you have been getting up to.

This morning Sparky was trying to borrow my shoes, I had to explain to him that they were not his size and he needed to find some his own size!! He said he recognised some of his elf friends from the photos you sent me yesterday 🙂

Phonics – today the sound is the split digraph i-e (nice smile). I know it is not in order but this is the next sound on the list the children need to look at 🙂

Maths – Two step problems.

it is the last Maths lesson in the sequence. You have all worked really hard with this topic, it can get super tricky but you have all worked well and grasped the concept. The same process as the other lesson, watch the video below and then complete the sheet. If you do not have access to a printer just complete the work on a blank piece of paper.

Sheet – Friday Maths Home Learning

Literacy

Literacy today is looking at this weeks spellings. Please find attached the Look, Cover, Check sheet that the children would usually get as homework. The spellings contain the sounds we have looked at this week and a few of the Year 2 National Curriculum words. I would also like the children to pick 5 of the spellings and write 5 fun sentences containing the chosen words (1 spelling word per sentence).

Spellings 11.12.20

PSHE – Christmas Jumper Day

Today is Christmas Jumper Day! So this afternoon I would like you to design me a christmas jumper, it can be as bright and colourful as you like. The more festive the better! I will do one and post it on the website a little bit later on, if you send me your pictures of your designs by email I will also upload them to the website to show everyone what brilliant designers you are in Ladybird class 🙂

Please find below an outline of a jumper to be printed, if you do not have access to a printer the children can draw and design the jumper free hand.

Friday Jumper

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Again, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to home learning this week. I am so very impressed and proud of you all. Enjoy a well deserved rest this weekend and I will check back in with you all on Monday morning.

See you next week 🙂

Best wishes, Miss Shadbolt.

Friday 20th November

Good morning!

Due to unforeseen circumstances the children of Ladybird class have not been able to have their reading books changed this week. I apologise for this and as soon as possible next week the books will be changed and sent home with the children. Can you please make sure that your child’s book and reading record is sent in to school on Monday, so we have everyone’s ready for a smooth swap over. If you can continue reading literature you have at home whether that be newspapers, books or magazines over this weekend, that would be amazing!

Homework – this week’s spellings are following the ‘il’ and ‘al’ spelling rule.

Maths, I have also created a homework sheet looking at money. The children started the topic this week and have really enjoyed learning the values of the different coins and how to make different amounts using a variety of different coins.

Please see the links below for the spelling sheet and the Maths sheet, if you cannot print the sheets just have a go on any piece of paper and then send it in with your child next Thursday.

Good morning to all of the Ladybirds and the parents and carers.

I hope you are all well and keeping safe at home :).

I have now had the opportunity to sit and look through all of the amazing work you have been doing all week, you superstars! You have worked extremely hard and I am very proud of you all – I know it isn’t easy to stay motivated at home but you’ve all done a great job!

Please find below this weeks spelling sheet and a word search to accompany the spellings. I know I would normally teach you the spelling rule first and then do the spellings but, just this week, we are going to do it back to front and I will go through the rules with you on Thursday.
