Nursery Weekly Update

This week the children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the story Stick Man. They were especially engaged in talking about their own families and sharing who is special to them. Together, we have thought about how families help and care for one another, and we celebrated the fact that all families are unique and different. It has been wonderful to see the children speaking with pride and confidence about the people who are important in their lives.

Next week we will be sharing the story Granny Went to Market. The children will be talking about their grandparents and all the lovely things they enjoy doing with them.

We would love it if you could send in a photo of your child with their grandparent(s) to support our discussions and activities.

Nursery Weekly Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had a lovely week in Nursery, with lots of excitement as the children explored the story of The Three Little Pigs.

The children have enjoyed:

  • Listening to and retelling the story with actions and props.
  • Taking on different roles in our small-world play – we’ve had lots of little pigs and a few very cheeky wolves.
  • Exploring new vocabulary linked to the story, such as “straw,” “sticks,” “bricks,” and “huff and puff.”

Through these activities, the children have been developing their speaking and listening skills, imagination, and teamwork. They have also been busy with plenty of counting and sorting in their play.

We are very proud of how confidently the children have joined in and how much they are growing in independence.

Next Week:

Our learning will move on to thinking about our own homes. We will be talking about where we live, what our houses look like, and who we share them with. To help us with our discussions, we would love it if you could send in a photo of your child’s home. This could be printed and brought in, or posted on Seesaw.

This week in Nursery

We’ve had such a fantastic week together! The children have been busy exploring who they are and celebrating what makes each of them unique.

Self-Portraits – The children loved creating their very own self-portraits. They carefully looked at their faces, noticed their features, and used a range of colours and materials to bring their pictures to life. It was wonderful to see the pride they took in their work!

Core Story: I Like Myself – Our story time focused on this joyful book, which celebrates individuality and self-confidence. The children really connected with the message and enjoyed talking about the things that make them special.

Song of the Week: The Power of Me – What a hit! The children sang with such enthusiasm and energy, reminding us all how important it is to believe in ourselves.

It’s been a week filled with confidence, creativity, and positivity – we are so proud of how the children are growing in their understanding of themselves and each other.

Nursery Weekly Update

Hello!

We have had a wonderful first week back in nursery. Our new topic for summer 2 is ‘people who help us’.

We have been busy turning our outdoor playhouse into a police station where we have been embedding our knowledge of how police officers can help us and using our new vocabulary of ‘helmet, baton, handcuffs, torch, walkie talkie’ etc.

We also received a special visit from members of the police force; Jack and Ollie. They showed the children their equipment, talked to them about their job role and even let us look inside their police car. The children were fascinated by what they saw and have been working hard to talk about the things they see using full sentences.

In maths, we have been focusing on subitising. This is a fundamental skill in EYFS whereby children are taught to instantly recognise small quantities without the need to count. We have been busy searching for quantities in the environment, using dice to subitise and using mathematical language to reason.

Summer Term Updates

Hi everyone,

Yay, it’s summer term!

Hopefully we will be getting some warm sunny weather so could you please always send the following in with your child each day…

  • sun hat
  • sun cream in bag
  • water bottle

Please make sure these things have your child’s name clearly labelled.

Forest school

It can get warm at forest school so sun hats are a must. However, for safety reasons every child must have their legs covered so they don’t get scratched, prickled or stung. If your child is wearing shorts or a dress on forest school day, that’s okay, just pop a spare pair of leggings, trousers, tights in their bag for them to change into.

Many thanks,

Mrs Owen

Easter fun

This week in Nursery has been full of Easter fun and creativity! We started the week by printing with potatoes and paint to make our very own unique Easter egg prints – the children loved exploring the colours and shapes. Later in the week, we headed down to our Forest School area where we collected twigs, leaves, petals, and other natural materials to decorate real Easter eggs, creating beautiful, nature-inspired designs. To end our Easter celebrations, we had an exciting Easter egg hunt in the Forest School area – everyone had so much fun searching for hidden treasures among the trees and bushes!

A fun filled week

This week has been filled with so much fun and excitement as we’ve been able to get outside and make the most of the lovely weather! The children have had an amazing time riding their bikes, playing in the water, and chasing bubbles in our Forest School area. The sunny days have provided the perfect backdrop for outdoor adventures, and we’ve loved watching the children enjoy the fresh air, engage with nature, and have a blast with their friends.

What a fantastic time we all had on Rockstars Day! The children had so much fun dancing to great music and showing off their best moves. Everyone joined in with huge smiles and enthusiasm, making it a day to remember. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged with the music, as they expressed themselves through dancing and having fun with their peers. We definitely rocked out in style!

Today has been extra special, as the Shropshire Library van came to visit our school! The children had the opportunity to choose their very own book, which they’ll get to enjoy reading throughout next week. It was such a lovely experience, and we’re excited to see the children dive into their new books, sparking even more curiosity and a love for reading

What the Ladybird Heard

This week in nursery, we’ve had a fantastic time exploring the exciting world of maps! We began by reading the story What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks. The children were captivated by the adventure of two thieves who tried to steal a prize cow from a farm, and how they created a map to help them carry out their plan. It was a fun and engaging way to introduce the children to the idea of maps and how they help us navigate and understand our surroundings.

Inspired by the story, we decided to make our own map of the nursery! We took a walk around our nursery area, carefully observing and noting down everything we could see. From the play equipment in the garden to the indoor areas, we included all the special spots on our map. The children had a wonderful time sharing what they noticed, and everyone eagerly contributed to creating our class map. This hands-on activity not only helped to develop their observation skills but also introduced them to the concept of mapping in a fun and meaningful way.

It was amazing to see how much the children enjoyed this activity, and it sparked some great conversations about directions, locations, and how we can use maps in the real world. We look forward to continuing our exploration of maps and other exciting adventures in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend!
