Good Morning Nursery,

You have made it to half way through our second week and I’m sure you are all trying really hard. Keep it up!

After your morning learning of number, shapes, colour and name writing (Concentrate on practicing your pencil grip today) also don’t forget about the day of the week, month and weather, it’s important that we keep going over these daily! I would like you to spend a little time cutting with scissors, I have included some cutting out worksheets or if you have some pictures at home you would prefer to uses then please use them. Firstly start with making snips in the paper, then cut out whole lines and then try to cut out a picture that is on the paper, it is really important that we keep using this skill as it helps with our fine motor movements.

Today I would like to introduce some Makaton for you to learn together. In nursery we do signing to songs which the children really enjoy, so I thought it would be a nice idea to have a go at learning some specific signing words together at home. Our first sign is ‘Hello’.

Happy Monday Morning

Hello Nursery,

I hope you have all had a great weekend and are ready to get started with some more super home learning.

Remember to continue with the morning routine looking at numbers, shape and colour. For numbers today you can use the number line I have sent you below or even better make your own! a great way to practice your number writing. Once you have done that see if you can count all the way up to 10, also see if you can recognise the numbers not in order.

Once you have done all that, try and place the same amount of objects over the number so you can start recognising number as a quantity, e.g. 1 lego block on number 1, 2 lego blocks on number 2 and so on.

Our shape of the week this week is a triangle! look for a triangle shaped object around your house, count the sides and corners of a triangle, see if you can count the same number on your fingers, write out the number 3, this can be on paper or making the number 3 in the air or shaping playdough into a 3 whatever makes learning more fun.

Our story of the week is ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Alison Bartlett and Vivian French, click on the link below,

It’s all about Oliver not liking any other food than chips until he plays a game with Grandpa.

  • Watch the story and have a think about your favourite vegetables??
  • What’s your families favourite vegetable??
  • What vegetables do you have in your fridge??
  • Draw your favourite vegetable.

Have a lovely day.

Happy Friday

Hello Nursery,

Well done for making it through your first week, I hope you’ve had fun learning at home with your family and I do hope you have listened well to your grown up’s.

Alongside our morning routine I’m going to start introducing activities that I would like you to have a go at:-)

BBC bitesize has some wonderful activities and games to make learning fun, the activity I would like you to have a go at this morning is to help with your numbers it’s called Buds-Number Garden, the link is below.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjkphbk/articles/zd4b382

I also can’t help but get excited about this weather, it is very important that you get out and enjoy it so I have found a fantastic activity that you can do, it’s also a bit of science which is always fun. Have a go at making an Ice Bauble. all you need is a dish, water, sticks, leaves or whatever exciting things you can find out side and some string, please see picture example below.

Ask questions like:

What happens to the water when it gets cold??                                                          What happens when the ice bauble gets warm??                                                              What shape is your ice bauble??

Can I thank you so much for the lovely pictures I have already received, you are being super learners earning your virtual stars, please keep it up!

Have a lovely weekend Miss Thelwellx

Good morning Nursery

Good morning nursery:-)

All the staff here in Nursery really miss you all and hope that you are all ok, it makes us feel better knowing you are safe at home even though we miss learning with you.

I know some of you like to do special nursery tasks so I will run your grown up’s through our morning routine so if you feel like you want have a go at some home learning please do, and don’t forget to send us anything you have done since we have been apart as we would love you to keep in touch.

E-mail admin@shawburystmarys.co.uk

Right to start our day we look at numbers and recognition on our number caterpillar, we are only concentrating on numbers up to 10, but if you can recognise numbers higher than this please keep going. an example of our 1-5 caterpillar is below.

T-N-2468-Number-Matching-Caterpillar-Activity_nursery

Then we look at the days of the week, ‘What day is it today?’, What the weather is doing outside? today is a super day to investigate that! and what month and date we are on today.

Then we look at colours we hunt around the nursery for objects of our favourite colours naming each ones we find, after that its our shape of the week we look at how many sides and corners the shape we have chosen has and count on our fingers, e.g. so if a we have chosen the square we hold up 4 fingers to count and then have a go at recognising and writing the number 4.

Finally before we go off for a well deserved playtime, we look at our name cards, we have a go at copying and writing our names in class, either by tracing over the letters or writing them independently.

If you would like to have a go at our morning routine please see some links below, but more importantly keep safe and warm x

Nursery home learning

Hello to all our lovely Nursery Children,

We are so disappointed not to be starting this new term together, but we thought you might like some activities to do at home this week.

Our topic this term is Plants and Growth so I will give you some ideas for activities that you might like to have a go at.

If you wanted to show us some of your super work once its done, you can e-mail admin@shawburystmarys,co,uk, and we will take a look.

  1. Draw and colour a picture of a flower naming all the colours you choose.

2. Go on a leaf spotting mission in your garden and count out how many leaves you           find.

3. Have a go at this flower craft activity, then take a look at the drawing of a flower               and see what the different parts on your flower are called. Open the links below.
