As well as this, this week’s spelling focus (unit 12) is – adding the suffix -ed

Rule: If a word ends in 2 consonants, just add -ed. If a word ends in a short vowel sound + a consonant, we double the consonant before adding -ed.

This includes words such as: painted, hunted, hugged, dropped, patted, batted, clapped.

Please take the time to practise these spellings with your child at home throughout the week. You can practise the words with -ed as well as the 6 high frequency words.

Our great week!

Snowdrops have had a fantastic week this week! We’ve celebrated ourselves on celebrating me day, we’ve worn our odd socks and we’ve worn our pyjamas today to raise money for Children in Need!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed their week of activities!
We’re all looking forward to next week now!

Read Write Inc Spelling

As your children are now in Year 2 they will be completing the Read Write Inc programme. This is a daily session where the children complete different activities to help them learn the different spelling rules and patterns. Each week we will complete a new unit. Last week was unit 1. This week we will be completing unit 2 (this also corresponds with where the children write their words to learn in their log books). Each week we have 6 red words (high frequency words) which are posted on the class page every Monday. On a Monday and Friday, the children practice these words and if they get any wrong they record them in their log books to be learnt at home over the weekend. As they are recorded on the class page on a Monday you can also practice these words with your children throughout the week. As well as this, each child chooses 6 words to learn that follow the weekly spelling rule. Overall, any words that are in your child’s log book for the current week’s unit need to be practised over the weekend at home. Each child will have different words in their log books, as it is individual to them and their needs. Log books will be sent home on a Friday and need to be returned on a Monday ready to start the next unit.

If you have any more questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Many thanks,

Mrs Owen

Forest school

Image result for forest school

Next week Forest school will be on Monday afternoon. Please bring in suitable footwear such as wellies, boots or trainers to change into. It can get quite muddy! We have water proof trousers and coats for every child to wear on top of their school uniform but for future sessions later on in the term, if it is a really cold day please send in an extra jumper/socks if you would like to. If girls are wearing dresses or skirts could you please send in a pair of trousers, leggings or joggers as legs need to be covered.

Many thanks

Mrs Owen

Snowdrops morning routine

Hello!

We have had a great start to reception here in Snowdrop class. The children are all settling in well and making lots of new friends.

I am pleased to say that the children are adapting to the routines within school well. To aid this I would like to ask that you encourage your children to come into class by themselves in the mornings.

As I am sure you can imagine, it can get very busy in the mornings with parents and children all inside the cloakroom! Please try to encourage your children to hang their things up on their peg by themselves and then return to you outside for a quick cuddle if needed before settling into the school day.

Thank you for your co-operation.
