Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 4 children will be bringing home multiplication cards to help support their times table recall and fluency ahead of the Multiplication Tables Check taking place in June.

The check focuses on quick recall of multiplication facts, so we would really appreciate your support in helping your child practise for a few minutes each day. Regular short practice sessions can make a huge difference to confidence and speed. TTRS has been a huge hit with the children and we would like the children to continue accessing this as much as they can.

When practising, please encourage your child to say the multiplication facts in a quick recall format, for example:

“2, 6, 12”
rather than
“2 times 6 is 12.”

This helps children develop the rapid recall needed for the check.

The cards also include a pictorial representation on the back to support understanding. Children should first try to answer using recall from memory, only using the picture if they need extra support.
