In our latest Art Enrichment session, pupils built on their prior knowledge of shading techniques by exploring these skills in a new and exciting way—using coloured pencils.
Having previously practised shading, the children were able to transfer their understanding of light, shadow, and tone into the use of colour. They experimented with layering, blending, and varying pressure to create depth and dimension in their work. It was wonderful to see their growing confidence as they explored how different colours can be combined to produce subtle gradients and striking effects.
To finish the session, pupils took part in a free draw, giving them the opportunity to apply their shading techniques creatively and independently. This allowed each child to express their individuality while reinforcing the skills they had practised.
We were incredibly impressed with the creativity, focus, and progress shown throughout the lesson. The artwork produced was vibrant, thoughtful, and a fantastic reflection of their developing artistic skills.
