First Aid Enrichment

In this week’s first aid session, we explored the basics of how our bodies respond to injuries and what we can do to help keep ourselves and others safe. We began by learning about the components of blood—red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma—and discussed the job each part plays. To help everyone understand these functions in a fun and memorable way, the children created their own “blood” models using craft materials to represent each component.

We then moved on to practical first aid skills. Students learned what to do in the case of a nosebleed, including staying calm, sitting forward, and pinching the soft part of the nose. We also talked about how to treat minor bleeding, such as small cuts and grazes, and the importance of cleaning a wound before covering it.

For more severe bleeding, students were introduced to the concept of applying pressure and getting adult help right away. To put these ideas into practice, everyone had the opportunity to wrap pretend injuries using real bandages, building confidence in handling basic first aid situations.
