Good morning Squirrels Class! I hope you have all had a fantastic half term holiday and managed to get some well earned rest.

Literacy: Today’s LO: As a writer, I will be able to write a jungle poem.
Our new topic is ‘Take a Walk on the Wild Side’ (Jungles and Rainforests). This half term in Literacy we will focus mainly on poetry, with lots of other areas covered too. Today I’d like the children to do a cold write.
Cold Write – As it is the start of our new topic and the children are going to look at poetry in detail, I’d like them to independently write a poem about jungles. This needs to be done with very little support (support with spelling is fine). During this Literacy topic the children will be extending their learning about poetry e.g. rhyming words, structure, verses, etc so when they do their hot write in a few weeks, there will be progress evident 🙂
Activity: Write a poem about a jungle. This doesn’t need to be a really long poem but just to show me what you remember from the last time we did poems a few weeks ago.
Template for you poem if you’d like to use one: Jungle page border
Maths: Year 1: Count in 5s
Year 2: Interpret pictograms (2, 5 and 10)
Geography: Today’s LO: As a Geographer, I will be able to locate jungles around the world and begin to describe them.
Please have a look through the teaching slides and information introducing our new topic ‘Take a Walk on the Wild Side’. I’m sorry about the quality of these slides, I’ve had to screen shot them several times before I could upload the file to the website as they were too big!
Activity: Look at Jungle Location Cards 1A, Worksheet 1A and a Jungle Flags card. The children are to read the statements describing the jungle locations, then draw and label the correct flags on the worksheet. 1) Activity
