Phonics: Our sound yesterday was the trigraph ‘ear’ – three letters together that make one sound. Have a look at the activities below, you can choose which one you want to complete to practise reading the ‘ear’ sound.
Literacy: This week the children’s aim is to create a new version of the book (Fancy Dress Jungle) about animals that live in a different habitat (e.g. Fancy Dress Ocean, Fancy Dress Desert, etc).
LO: As a writer, I will be able to make up a character for my story.
Refer to ‘How to write a story’ by Simon Cheshire pages 6 and 7 about imagination and why it is important.
Complete activity on page 8 and 9 (children to sketch the scene onto a piece of paper or use template). Have a look at each other’s sketches and discuss the importance of adjectives and imagination. Activity from book I’d like the children to make up a character/characters today. Read Making up a character and model completing this one together (the children will then invent their own character on the sheet below).
Activity: Now have a go at completing your own spider diagram about your made up character/characters. Character sheet
(Please note the name in the middle of the spider diagram is for your character’s made up name – not your own name) 🙂
Maths: Year 1: Subtracting length problems
Year 2: Draw 2-D shapes
Art: LO: As an Artist, I will be able to follow a step by step to draw a jungle animal.
Can you have a go at drawing your own jungle animal today? You can either draw from a picture you find or follow a step by step. I would love to see your drawings so please don’t forget to email them to me 🙂
