Our Vision
Our Church of England School seeks to inspire and nurture a love of learning, independence and self-belief in a peaceful and stable environment. Building on a strong framework of Christian beliefs and values, we aim to support each other and the wider community.
School Values
We have six school values and an underpinning value of Peace.
Peace
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God’ (Matthew 5:9)
The school’s six values:
Empowerment
We aim to make our children stronger and more confident especially in their learning and understanding their own rights.
‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ (Philippians 4:13)
Ambition
We aim to instil our children with a desire and determination to achieve success in education.
‘Seek the Kingdom of God…and he will give you everything you need’ (Matthew 6:33)
Collaboration
We aim to provide our children with opportunities to work together to complete a task or achieve a goal.
‘Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed’ (Ecclesiastes 4:9)
Positivity
We aim to adopt a ‘can do’ attitude and an optimistic approach with courage and perseverance for our children.
‘This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it’ (Psalm 118:24)
Respect
We aim for our children to be thoughtful towards the feelings, wishes and rights of themselves and others.
‘Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you’ (Matthew 7:12)
Integrity
We aim for our children to do the right thing and make the right choices.
‘…Do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of people’ (Corinthians 8:21)
Philosophy and Aims of St Mary’s C of E Primary and Nursery
As a church school our philosophy and ethos is based on Christian Values and the teaching of Christ. We are an inclusive school and respect the differences, backgrounds, abilities, cultures and faiths of all our children and families. We promote the British Values of Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs, alongside our Christian values.
We strive to make St Mary’s an exciting and stimulating place where all children can achieve their full potential. We want our pupils to leave St Mary’s not only literate and numerate, but able to maintain the same excitement about learning with which they start school and with the confidence and skills to find out more about their own locality and the world beyond.
Our School Rules
We have 3 simple rules for everybody in our community
- Be Ready
- Be Respectful
- Be Safe
At St Mary’s we want to ensure that our school:
- fosters Christian understanding and attitudes;
- provides a welcoming, caring, secure, healthy and safe environment where the whole community feel respected, happy and valued;
- provides equal opportunities for all children regardless of age, sex, ability, race or ethnic background;
- encourages each child, through high quality teaching, to enjoy learning and see education as a life-long process to help them to achieve their full potential, in a rapidly changing world;
- develops lively and enquiring minds and provides opportunities for children to work independently and collaboratively to foster a positive attitude to their own and others’ work;
- helps all children to develop worthwhile personal values and attitudes and to gain a clear understanding of, and respect and tolerance for the ways of life for all people including those with Special Needs, from other cultures, races and creeds;
- establishes an environment that will enable children to achieve the highest levels of literacy and numeracy;
- encourages all children to become independent learners who are confident, skilful and responsible;
- develops each child’s understanding of their self-worth and the need to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour ;
- develops an effective partnership so that parents, carers and children feel part of the school community and their views, opinions and preferences are listened to and respected.
