Our year 5 and 6 children loved taking part in parliament week. UK Parliament Week is an annual event, spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how you can get involved. It has been a great way for the children to find out new things about UK Parliament and create their own political parties. The week started with each class learning about what parliament is, the rooms inside the Houses of Parliament and what a democractic parliament looks like. After this, the children worked in groups to create their own political parties. They had to create their own party name, badges, logo, slogan and banners. In addition, they had to write a manifesto which explained why their political party should be voted for. To end the week, each party presented their manifesto to the rest of the class and they voted for their favourites.
