People who help us – police visit – Class 1

This week, the children explored the role of a Police Officer. We looked at where we would find them, who they are, and how they can help us as civilians.

Firstly, the children delved into the role of a police officer using the text “Topsy and Tim.” They were thoroughly engaged and very eager to learn how much a police officer can help us. At this point, we also recalled the emergency services number: 999.

Following this, we had a visit from our local RAF police, where they spoke in-depth about their role and how it differs from that of a police constable. The children sat wonderfully and asked some incredibly engaging questions.

After the RAF police visit, Class 1 participated in a police-themed continuous provision where they roleplayed a crime scene and explored how they would tackle it as police officers. Experimenting with fingerprinting, wearing the appropriate attire, and reporting an investigation on a form were just some of the activities they explored.

In the second lesson, we had a wonderful surprise visit from PC Jack Harper! He talked to us about everything he carries with him while on duty and explained what his job entails. The children were fascinated to learn about the different tools and equipment PC Harper uses to keep our community safe.

After his talk, PC Harper kindly showed us around a real police car! The children were thrilled to see the sirens and flashing lights up close. It was an exciting and educational experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

This visit was a fantastic addition to our ongoing learning about community helpers, building on our previous visit from the RAF Police. The children had a great time and learned so much about the important role of the police in our community.
