At school, we have been learning about how to stay safe through our new Safety Squad initiative. The children have been exploring real-life situations and learning simple, practical ways to keep themselves and others safe.
We would love your support in reinforcing these important messages at home.
What we’ve been learning:
- Road safety: Stopping, looking, listening, and thinking before crossing – especially not crossing between parked cars where drivers cannot see them.
- Walking safely indoors: Understanding why we walk (not run) in corridors to prevent accidents.
- Kitchen safety: Recognising dangers such as hot pans and why we must never pull on handles.
- Bike safety: The importance of wearing a correctly fitted helmet every time they ride.
Simple ways you can help at home:
- Talk through everyday situations and ask, “Is this safe or unsafe?”
- Practise crossing roads safely together and explain your thinking aloud.
- Encourage children to spot hazards and explain what they would do.
- Check your child’s bike helmet regularly to ensure it fits correctly.
We are also using simple visual symbols in school:
✔️ Safe – a green tick
❌ Unsafe – a red cross
These help children quickly recognise and talk about safety in a clear, consistent way.
By working together, we can help children build confidence, awareness, and lifelong safety habits.
Thank you for your continued support.
