This week in Safety Squad, the children have been learning all about staying safe around water.
We began by talking about the different places we enjoy swimming, including swimming pools, the beach, lakes and paddling pools. The children shared their own experiences and discussed ways to enjoy water safely.
The children learned about the Water Safety Code, exploring the important messages of:
- Stop and think
- Stay together
- Float
- Call 999 in an emergency
To deepen their understanding, the children designed their own water safety posters, helping them to remember and share key safety messages. They also sorted photographs into safe and unsafe water activities, discussing their reasons and making thoughtful observations.
As part of their learning, the children took part in role-play scenarios where they acted out what they should do in different water safety situations. This helped them practise making safe choices and responding appropriately in an emergency.
We were very impressed with the children’s knowledge and enthusiasm. Learning about water safety is an important life skill, and the children showed great understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe around water.
