Dear parents/carers,
What a brilliant week in Class 3!
In Maths, Year 1 have been revising our 2 and 10 timetables. We have been practising counting in 2s and 10s, understanding that this is a quicker method for counting larger amounts of objects than counting in 1s. Year 2 children have started their unit on fractions where they have been working out halves and quarters. Towards the end of the week, all children enjoyed coronation themed maths activities.
In English, the children have been introduced to contractions and looked at some spelling rules relating to these. They have then applied their knowledge in their writing by producing a piece of work outlining what they’d wear, eat and live if they were a King or Queen.
In History, we have begun to look at similarities and differences between Victorian holidays and holidays today. The children have applied their knowledge from our English topic on Queen Victoria’s bathing machine and also looked at other similarities and differences in sun protection and activities on the beach.
In Science, we have been closely observing our sunflowers, looking what features have grown and measuring the height of them.
The children had a wonderful time at our coronation picnic on Friday. They had been busy making their crowns and were so excited to take part in the parade! Many thanks to all of the parents/carers that came to celebrate with us.
