Class 3 Weekly Update

What a great first week back in Class 3!

We have had lots of fun getting to know each other and making friends with new people in our class. We have explored our new room and completed a scavenger hunt to find out where everything is in our new classroom.

Our school value that we are focussing on this half term is ‘Respect’, and the whole school has been reading a book which relates closely to this value. Our book is ‘We’re All Wonders’ and it talks about how fantastic it is to be unique and different. We have done lots of activities relating to our book, we have thought very hard about how the main character Auggie, is feeling at different parts in the book, we were able to then write some sentences to explain how Auggie was feeling. This book has made us think deeply about how we treat others, and how we can always show respect to everyone around us.

On Thursday, we had a great time on our ‘Hook’ Day learning all about our new History topic – The Story of our High Street. We discussed which shops were already on Shawbury High Street, before designing our own shop to replace the shop that is currently empty. There were some fantastic designs and ideas for our high street. We then spent the afternoon junk modelling and creating our shop fronts! We had a great day and are very excited to learn more about our topic in the next few weeks.

Reminders:

  • PE Days are Monday and Tuesday, children are to come into school in PE kit on these days only.
  • On Monday, children will be sent home with their reading book for the week. Books will need to be returned on Friday ready for a new book the following Monday.

Have a lovely weekend!

Dear parents/carers,

What a brilliant week in Class 3!

Year 1 children have engaged with the phonics screening check and we could not be more proud of the progress the children have made. All children thoroughly enjoy their phonics sessions and show a keen interest in decoding which. Their engagement has been apparent in the way they read every week, not just this one!

Year 1s in Maths have been learning about position and direction. We have been practised using lots of language related to position and direction, including practising our left and right turns, moving forwards and backwards and exploring whether objects are above or below. Children have loved learning through song, singing to hockey cockey and dancing to the Cha Cha slide!

Year 2 have finished off their unit of Time which they have worked so hard on. We are now looking at Statistics and the different ways we represent data: we have looked at tally charts and tables this week.

In literacy, we have continued our learning related to our story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. Children have enjoyed being engaged in new vocabulary and learning about the purpose of a lighthouse and the job of a lighthouse keeper! This week they have innovated the story, thinking of a new problem for the characters to face! Their imagination has been fantastic and their writing has been equally as impressive.

We have also begun our new Geography unit. We are continuing to focus on the seaside but are now looking at the landscape from a geographers perspective, thinking about the human and physical features that can be seen.

Reminders

  • Practice Sports Day- Children need PE kits and suncream/hat for Monday thank you.
  • Sports Day – Tuesday 20th All children to have sun cream applied before school and bring a hat and water bottle.

Now that the weather is warmer and dryer, children could wear sensible shoes (i.e. trainers) rather than wellies if they wish. However, please send you child to school in their normal school shoes and provide sensible shoes/trainers/wellies in a bag.
  • Children will need hats in school now that the weather is warmer. Children are welcome to bring suncream to school but please explain to your child that this is personal to them and should not be shared with any other children due to allergies.
  • Please could you apply suncream at the start of the day and then children can re-apply at lunchtime- some children are spending their breaktime applying suncream and they are not getting a chance to be outside for very long.
